Horrible place

This is the worst place I have ever stayed. Hot water only Friday-Sunday, when you tell the staff about it “ oh, we are fixing it” but they don’t. No water pressure in our first room so they move us and then later that day try moving us again. Booked by phone told free breakfast with our membership and booking get there that is wrong no free breakfast. Manager does nothing about it. Homeless people everywhere in the parking lot not safe. Fire alarm going off at 5:30 am and then again at 8:45 blamed on a homeless guy pulling it I don’t think twice in the same morning. They vacuumed at 5:45 am hitting the door making a lot of noise inappropriate at that time of day. The stairwells have vomit and old food in them. The front desk was nice every day getting yelled out by guests due to issues, felt bad for them.

Staff have no empathy

I was charged an extra $365 for smoking. I told them I did make a mistake by lighting it, but I put it out immediately & didn’t smoke it. I even brought it down to the lobby to show them. They didn’t care. I told them I was confused because the website said “smoking”.They wouldn’t hear nothing of it. Treated me as if I was a liar. I booked the hotel with Priceline & their link to Holiday Inn in Salem, OR under top amenities the first one listed under “General” says smoking allowed. Later, after I was charged I went back to the website to make sure that’s what I saw & it does say that but, last listed under “general” it also says “smoke free property” which I didn’t skim far enough down the first time to see that. I’d say that’s contradictory & a little confusing. The reason I lit my smoke was because I remembered seeing “smoking allowed” on the website, the reason I put it out immediately after that was I thought to myself “this doesn’t smell or look like a smoking room”. I ended up getting in a small confrontation with the lady that told me she was going to charge me because she would NOT hear me out, it seemed like she had no heart. I honestly didn’t smoke it, I went down to show my proof, the confrontation actually ended on okay terms after I begged her to reconsider the charge or even only charge me part because I honestly couldn’t afford it & I didn’t smoke it. I couldn’t even afford my room because I had to use AFFIRM & pay for the room in four payments. She promised to speak with her general manager & call me back later that day. I never got a call back. I was charged several days later after the charge already dropped off so I was surprised when it happened. When I called the hotel to find out why she didn’t follow through (it would have been helpful to be prepared for this charge) I was treated rudely by a man on the phone.. He would not hear me out. All the staff are the same, no empathy & treated me as if I was a liar. He said I would need to dispute it with my bank but he will submit his evidence. I asked what evidence & he responded they have me on video in the lobby waving my smoke around. So, this guy is threatening to use my own evidence that was to prove my innocence,, against me? The whole point of me waving it around was to show the woman it wasn’t smoked, very tip was burnt but it wasn’t smoked. He didn’t care & hung up on me. I’ve never been treated so rudely & looked down upon in judgement like I did with this staff. The feeling these people gave me made me feel bad about myself, embarrassed, less-than, lower-class & don’t meet their standards. The situation itself caused me anxiety with panic, thank goodness the panic didn’t happen until after I got in my car to leave. The charge has caused me so much stress & grief, I still have no idea what I’m going to do about the negative balance in my bank account, -$331 one of my paychecks might ALMOST cover that cost. And what’s sad is I admitted to making the mistake of lighting it BUT I didn’t actually smoke it and they didn’t care, basically called me a liar. Never ever going back & Ive already told all my Facebook friends about the incident at IHG

Horrible service, unhelpful and lazy staff, charged us twice.

I reserved rooms for my daughter and son so they would not have to drive a new car home in really bad weather at night. I attempted to call the hotel, calling 5 or 6 times over the course of an hour, and when unable to get through to anybody, reserved 2 rooms online. When the kids got there, the staff was rude and said they didn't have reservations. They found those, and said my card wouldn't work. So my daughter paid...and then they also charged my card. Don't stay here, if your money means anything to you. Staff was patently rude and unhelpful. Terrible experience. Terrible.

Hotel does not deal with complaints properly

First of all Trenton the male who works the front desk was rude. I read several negative back comments about him apparently it’s an issue that is not handled. As I stated to Marcel the sales manager when I made the reservation with International Hotel Group they said they would give me a great rate which WOULD include the pet fee. Marcel says we do not have any control over what a third party quoted you for a room rate. The Holiday Inn is a subsidiary of IHG who I made the reservation with.
He should be aware of the prices they are agreeing to! That’s why they record conversations. Listen to the tape don’t just generically apologize and shove the problem under the rug. And it this case it was a very dirty rug.

Best Customer Service

My husband and I arrived at the Holiday Inn on Market Street without a reservation. We traveled to Salem because our son was in the hospital. Chris found us a room even though the hotel was very full. He was sympathetic and understood our plight and did everything he could to make us comfortable for the five nights we were there. He provided the best customer service we've ever received at a hotel!

The restaurant served delicious food and the entire staff there was very friendly.

We would definitely stay at this property if the situation ever presented itself again.

The first time we stayed here there was noise on the roof and they just told us no one was up there...went on for over an hour. Never did find out what it was but were eventually able to go to sleep. Decided it was a fluke and decided to stay again. It is okay but not up to the standards they should be.... Also, since this is not a Holiday Inn Express there is no continental breakfast...we could deal with this just surprised. We were in and out fast the first time so no TV but this time we got in early and wanted to watch some news...choices were CNN, MSNBC or local...so if you are Liberal you have a choice...no FOX so nothing close to what we wanted to watch. We decided to check out other channels...really nothing but junk. We will probably not choose this particular hotel again but are not ruling out Holiday Inn all together.
