Great location

Almost a 5-star review. Hotel was in a great location and breakfast service was good. Only friction point was that guests received a flyer stating that water access was temporarily cut off during the stay and that they had a choice to receive hotel points, a food voucher, etc. I filled out the form to receive points and over a week has past without any points. Better to just apologize for the inconvenience than have guests spend time filling out a form and giving the false expectation that they will receive something. Otherwise, it was a pleasant stay

Highly recommend

We absolutely loved our stay! The staff was all super friendly and helpful (especially the valet attendants), food and drinks at the bar/restaurant were delicious, very clean and the perfect location on the strip. Highly recommend and will definitely be staying here when we visit VB again.

Beautifully Done Updated Rooms

We just returned from a week long stay at the Holiday Inn on 21st street Virginia Beach. This hotel is centrally located in the middle of VB and all of the activity. This hotel has just recently been fully remodeled and all of the rooms are updated. I enjoyed the fact that EVERY room has a balcony that faces the ocean. It was relaxing to wake up and go to bed with an amazing view. The hotel has a small lobby area, exit to the beach, small fitness center, indoor heated pool overlooking the beach and a restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The room: I have zero complaints about the room, all the furniture, bedding, electronics, flooring and electronics have all been recently updated. In fact we were the first person to stay in our room since the remodel. There was a mini fridge and microwave also in every room. Our fridge did run on the warm side though. Bathroom had stand up shower and good hot water flow. Remodel may have been done quickly though because the shower doors both kept sliding open while in the shower. Mattresses were wonderful!! We were always able to reach a front desk staff and most were friendly. Parking can be tricky-there is a lot in front of the hotel but there isn’t always a spot so you may need to park across the street in HI adjacent lot. It is tight too if you have a larger vehicle it may be an issue. Elevator and stairs available. Hallways were not air conditioned at the time of our visit and there were three power outages. The front of the building overlooks the street/shops and restaurants. Very walkable to many attractions. I think this hotel is trying hard to improve and meet a good standard of customer service.
A few cons I would like to note:
Upon check in we got a notice saying “full daily housekeeping is up and running” I though well that’s cool!! First day we were asked by housekeeping if they could “skip your room today” sure I said and signed off on the sheet. Day two, three and four-our beds were made (with existing sheets), trash emptied and dirty towels (that I left on the floor) taken. None were replaced though. So when we returned to our room at night we had no towels…this happened three days in a row. Also no counters or bathroom fixtures were wiped. But it seemed like they were training a new housekeeping staff which I’m sure is challenging. My child left a very sentimental “favorite blanket” he has had since birth from a family member that has since passed at the hotel when we checked out. The blanket was like new and a good size-he was hysterical about losing it. I called the hotel multiple times since our visit asking if there is a lost and found or to speak with someone in house keeping but I never got a call back-sadly.
Let’s talk food: hotel restaurant is over priced and mediocre at best. It is an excelled location thought and beautiful outdoor area and views. Such potential. Service not great and low food standards. Breakfast…so most IHG HI hotels have free continental breakfast. At this location it is only included if you have a certain rate. So at breakfast the servers immediately asks “do you have a breakfast voucher” which is really off putting for many guests. I am an elite gold guest and felt this was a poor business approach. Just include the free little buffet breakfast for everyone! Instead of making some guests pay $16-we we’re also told our first day because we were not part of that rate the kids would need to pay $10 for breakfast. But kids are supposed to eat free…by putting servers on and making them get guests drinks instead of guests getting their own drinks is a really poor system because then it makes people feel obligated to tip a server they never see again just for getting them that one free drink. It also makes the servers grouchy because they are only making $2-3 a table. Just a thought but make the breakfast Buffet included and put ONE server on to focus on the food only and one hostess to seat and bus tables. Everyone would be much happier.
Being an elite member I had also requested a higher floor in a quieter area as were are light sleepers and our kids go to bed early. I understand on busier nights these requests can’t always be met. We got a lower floor right next to the staff room that slammed open and closed ALL night long and people were smoking in.
The pool area was clean. There were rusted bolts sticking out of the door handles but I assume those will be upgraded soon. The person in charge of the pool might need a little help in the proper distribution of chemicals because they way it was done improperly created a film of chlorine and chemicals on top because it wasn’t distributed properly (see pictures). Gym is small but clean and great view of the beach. Hallways and lobby area all updated and clean.
Overall this hotel is on its way to being successful. With the nicely appointed updated rooms and amazing views. Some wonderful front desk and maintenance night staff also.

Nice Stay

Holiday Inn was very nice oceanfront hotel. Everything was great except like one of the other reviewers had mentioned, Hemingways Restaurant at times seemed understaffed or unorganized. We ate at Hemingways twice for breakfast and once for lunch. When we arrived for lunch, we asked to sit outside, the hostess, who wasn't doing anything at the time said that she had to clean a table first. So, we waited inside at the bar area while she cleaned our table, the next thing we see is the hostess giving our table to another family who had come from the beach. Thanks to Jeremy at the bar, we ended up sitting at the bar and having a great time chatting with him. Jeremy saved the day.

BED BUGS

My wife and daughter met friends for a girls get away in Virginia Beach. They stayed from June 23 to June 27, 2021.

After the first night they found bed bugs in the bed and one of them was bitten by the bed bug. They went to the front desk to report and it took over three hours for a manager to arrive on property. She did seek medical treatment for the bite. When the mgr did arrive she was less than sympathetic. Mgr had all of their belongings "Hot boxed" and moved their room. Mgr did refund that night on the bill.

Mgr explained that any other refunds/credits would need to go through the insurance company. Days after checkout the insurance company contacted us and said that is NOT the case and refunds/credit are done thru the hotel.

Between June 27 and June 30, I have spent over 8 hours on hold waiting for my call to be answered in the order it was received (never answered) and have sent emails to IHG customer care and Holiday Inn customer care (both unanswered).

On June 29 I contacted the hotel and asked to speak to the manager and was told she was off and was back to work on June 30 at 3pm. I left my contact information, requested a call and got NO CALL FROM THE MANAGER.

In short they spent four days in Virginia Beach and we now have to fumigate our houses and pray that we did not bring any of those critters home with us, and no one from Holiday Inn or IHG seems to care.

Terrible customer service. I would NEVER recommend this hotel to anyone.

Poor excuse for a Motel!

The room needs a lot of repairs. the toilet in the bathroom would come up off the floor and the sink and counters were really dirty. We ask for more towels and was told they would bring them up right away . Well 3 hours later we received the towels.. The front staff seems confused on to handle the customers and had to explain to one another on how to do so. And the PARKING is first come first serve AND wasn't told that when making reservations. The price that I paid was ridiculously high for the shape the room was in. I could have stayed in a 5 star motel for what I paid. Will NOT stay there again.

Handicap accessible room is a disaster

Stayed at this property with my sister for four nights. She uses a wheelchair and there were multiple huge laundry bins obstructing the hallway to our handicap-accessible room. We were on the first floor and the bushes needed to be trimmed. Had to stand to see over these bushes to see the boardwalk and the ocean. No hot water one day. Vent in bathroom made a continuous water dripping/clicking sound.

Great Week-end Getaway!

We love the Virginia Beach area, and it is about an 8 hour drive for us. After a very hectic year, we wanted to get away for a long week-end to a place not too far away, yet warm and sunny still in October. We live in Massachusetts, so we wanted to extend the summer just a little bit longer. Plus, it was my Birthday week-end!
We had a wonderful time! The staff is super friendly and kind. The king size bed was wonderful, and the ocean view from our balcony was just beautiful!
We totally enjoyed our stay here, and would recommend it to anyone looking to come to this area.

The staff handled our needs (Family also). We had a second Suite for part of the stay.

The hotel is well maintaned for its age. I would recommend this hotel for the whole family.

The hotel was very clean. The staff were polite and helpful. Breakfast was included in our stay and it was a very generous buffet. Our only issue was the TV stopped working in our room.
