So… specifically choose this hotel for the airport shuttle and pool. Unfortunately the pool is not open till I think they said august and the shuttle to the airport is paid not free. This info is on their site… but not in the areas one would think to look for it (it only says pool not open in the hotel overview but not under amenities where it just lists the pool with no asterisk or other clarification… same for shuttle. Under airport shuttle it says free but in shuttle to other locations below that section it clarifies that shuttle from airport is free but to airport is paid (and with 4 of us a cab was cheaper).

That said hotel room was large and spacious, clean and bed was comfortable. Cleaning staff was helpful when neither of the rooms we booked we could get the door lock to work on (think either the cards, imprint machine or door locks should be looked into to see why none of us and one of their staff could get them to work… it is very finicky)……. None of the hot keys on the phone worked and as far as we could tell there was no way to turn on fan or get any ac in the rooms….. but we did not want to leave room to ask front desk and could not get phone to work to call them. Relatively minor complaints but it seems like maintenance might be a bit behind the 8 ball on that type of thing.

A HORRIBLE experience

I checked into this hotel after coming off of a transatlantic cruise. I wanted to spend a few leisurely days in Rome and I’ve had good luck with Holiday Inn. I’m Platinum Elite with IHG.
It started with the shuttle service from the airport. They only run every 2 hours in the afternoon. Called the hotel and they said to take a cab.
45 Euros later, I find out that you have to look for a “local” taxi at the airport. The person who answered the phone could have told me that.
When I got to the hotel. It was a warm day. It was in the low 80s with a lot of sun. I spent the day on a tour and was looking forward to a nice shower and cool down in my room.
My suspicions should have been awakened when I saw a lot of windows in the hotel open.
The woman checking me in was very polite when I asked for a room on the east side (not as much Sun).
I got to my room and which was already warm. I’ve noticed some hotels starting to close their curtains when housekeeping is done. I wish more hotels would do that.
I stuck my key in the slot. I turned on the AC. It took a good 15 minutes before it kicked on.
I decided to give it some time.
I went to take a shower. I’ve been in a lot of hotels and I know how to use the ones with the wand. They are not my favorite, but I could make it work.
The problem is that the wand would not stay in place. It kept sliding down the pole. I had to use one hand to hold the wand in place over me, while I used the other hand to wash. It was really awkward.
I waited several hours to see if the room cooled down. Which it never did.
I called the Front Desk and asked if I could get a fan (they do not have them). The woman who answered suggested I open a window (which I did but outside was not much cooler).
The Front Desk asked if I wanted someone to come to look at it. I said No. I was already getting ready for bed and I did not want someone who might take hours.
It was 2 hours. The Maintenance guy came anyway. Knocking on the door (I had a do not disturb sign out). I woke up and answered the door. I said come back tomorrow when I’m out.
I slept on top of the sheets and sweated all night.
Took a cold shower the next morning. Again, holding the wand up.
As I left for the day. I stopped at the Front Desk and explained everything to both of the people at the desk. They wrote it down. I said I would be gone all day (this was 10 am). Whoever needed to get in there could. I just did not need housekeeping.
I spend another day touring Rome (it’s a BEAUTIFUL city). But, it was warm and a lot of sun. I get back to the hotel looking forward to my problems being fixed (usually not a problem in hotels I stay at).
But, nothing was fixed. I call downstairs and ask why. They had no explanation.
I ask to change rooms and was told there are none available.
So, here’s another night (at least it’s a little cooler outside). Sleeping with my window open. Getting to hear all the road noise and etc.
But, I have to get some sleep. It’s gonna be a long flight home.
Will be writing a full letter to Holiday Inn and IHG when I get home.
This is not an “old” hotel. It’s been updated from what I can see. It’s got really good Wifi (my only positive). The location leaves something to be desired. There’s nothing but medical offices around. It’s a sketchy walk to the train station at night.
I would NOT recommend this hotel. I feel sorry for anyone who stays here in the height of the summer.
I did get an email from the Front Desk when I got home yesterday, apologizing for the issues with the A/C. They gave me 2000 points. Considering that I paid over 36k points for an hotel room that I could not sleep in. The 2k points are a joke.

Thin walls and horrible restaurant experience

I booked this hotel for myself and 8 associates for 6 nights, completing our stay on 10 October, 2014. I found the room and bed to be very clean and comfortable, but was woken repeatedly on several nights when the couple next to me were having a late night or early morning conversation. They were not yelling and did not seem to be talking loudly. The walls just didn't contain the sound. Because I am typically able to go back to sleep quickly, this was really a minor inconvenience.

What was very disappointing was the service in the bar and restaurant in the evening (breakfast was fine). The staff in the bar was inattentive and we found it difficult to get their attention even when standing directly in front of them at the bar. This was not the same for women who seemed to get immediate attention. This happened every night when we would go down for a relaxing drink at the end of the day.

Even worse was the night our group dined at the restaurant. The flavors and temperature were mediocre at best. We all ordered at the same time, but food was delivered in a very disorganized manner (one of our group received his salad 20 minutes after finishing his main course). My main course came out with my associates salad.

The overall dining experience was so awful that it was a relief when dinner was over and we could leave.

Again, the hotel itself met or exceeded expectations, but the food service in the evening was severely lacking.

Nice room, poor restaurant service.

In general the stay was nice but it could have been a great experience with good restaurant service. When our initial waiter made a face when we declined the wine list things went downhill from there. We were pretty much ignored the rest of our dinner, weren't offered coffee or desert and we weren't even brought our bill when we requested it from a waiter passing by. I finally had to go to the entrance and request it where the lady filled in the details and printed it for me. I paid on the spot and we left.

One overnight close to the airport

As this was the only available Holiday Inn hotel in Rome for the first night of my stay in Rome (a total of four nights), I decided to try it out. The hotel was OK for sleep and breakfast, but very unconvienient when trying to get back to it after 10pm.

Good hotel

The hotel and room were very nice. Staff were helpful and spoke English. It was perfect for what we wanted. Outside Rome but close.

Just a couple of tips for travellers. The laundry is a laundry service and does not operate on weekends, very inconvenient. For a family of four, forget the shuttle into Rome. For four euros more you can get a taxi that goes at convenient times and doesn't drop you in the middle of no where. Pack the mosquito spray! The gym is relatively poor.

Buen Hotel como alternativa

Llegamos por casualidad al hotel y nos recibieron muy bien a pesar de no tener reserva.
es un buen Hotel de 4 estrellas, amplio cómodo y su personal muy atento, esta retirado del centro de la ciudad pero cuentan con un sistema de traslados bastante eficiente, aunque pudiera ser mejor.
buena comida y bebidas.
su piscina muy amplia y con buenas instalaciones y su precio muy conveniente.
lo recomiendo de todas maneras.
