Great Downtown Hotel for the Price

By

April 21, 2021

We stayed in Houston because my daughter was playing volleyball at George R. Brown that weekend. We paid $333.43 to stay at the Holiday Inn for two nights. Parking and breakfast were included.

We didn't have to pay for parking, hunt for a lot, or park in the creepy parking garage across from George R. Brown. We were able to walk from the hotel to the convention center. Priceless! The one problem with walking at the time we were there was road construction. The side walk was torn up, so we had to walk in the road at points. This of course was not the hotel's fault.

The breakfast was excellent. I was expecting cold pastries, some fruit, and coffee. Instead, we had several types of eggs and breakfast meats to choose from. Pancakes and pastries were available. There was milk, several kinds of juices, and yogurt available. Everything was individually wrapped. We both enjoyed the breakfast.

The beds in our room were very comfortable. My daughter commented several times about how nice the mattress on her bed was, etc. The one negative with our room is that we faced some sort of bar that was having a party on the Sunday. We had trouble going to sleep because of the noise.

The pool and fitness areas looked great, but since we would have had to make appointments for their use, we decided not to use them.

The overall cleanliness of the hotel was good, but the stairwell wasn't the cleanest and the area around our vending machines had some water damage to the ceiling (probably from the Uri). The ice machine on our floor didn't work. Even with those minor issues, we both felt like we got our money's worth.

I had some scheduling issues that I called the main corporate office to resolve. When that didn't work, the manager at the IHG downtown took care of my problem. Oh, and the front desks receptionists (and I mean all of them) were amazingly polite and courteous.

We are looking forward to staying at the IHG downtown again, and I would definitely recommend that location to anyone. For the price, it definitely exceeded my expectations.

Had to change rooms

By

August 12, 2019

Upon arrival the systems were down so we had to wait to check in, that was not too bad. You have to pay $27 for parking, There was a $50 additional charge that I was not aware of for "incidentals", we had to change our room because the AC was not working and we had no hot water. The staff was not very pleasant. After calling down to tell them about our AC not working, the front desk person was rushing me off the phone and had no interest in the fact that I was not happy at all about our room. The restraunt./bar was the best experience during the entire stay.

Enjoyable Stay

The location was perfect. The hotel is located right by the Houston Monorail and Uber drivers are never more than a couple of minutes away. Although we didn't order any food, the hotel bar served a variety of delicious cocktails. The check in process was a little slow with only one person, but we weren't in a huge rush. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. I will definitely book this hotel again.
