We recently had an AGM where a number of our board members travelled to Red Deer. Everyone commented how clean the rooms were. Very enjoyable stays.

My daughter and I came to the hotel for a two-night stay over a weekend. Our main reasons for coming was to use the pool and for a quiet space to do my work. We were also excited that there was a restaurant in the hotel. NONE of these things were available to us during our stay. I checked all over the website to make sure the pool had precautions for COVID as we want to be as safe as we can. I also checked all over the site for closures of restaurants in the hotel. I wanted to double-check by calling the hotel but couldn't find a number online anywhere.
After checking in, I was told that the restaurant was closed, and they offered no food at all at the hotel and that I could order skip the dishes. So one of the main reasons for our stay wasn't operating, and we didn't have to chance to cancel as we were already booked in.
Then, we saw the pool. All my daughter wanted to do was go swimming. There was a sign on the door saying only 15 people in a time. Which seems already like a lot for such a small pool, but okay. Then we go into the pool area, only to see at least 35 people jammed into the pool. We were not willing to risk our health, and my daughter was crushed. We checked back a few hours later, and it was still as full as it was when we arrived.
Next, we were staying in a one-bedroom suite. It was okay, but nothing as unique as the online format made it sound. There was also hair in the bathroom sink and shower, which was unsettling as it doesn't show much extra care for COVID. I settle my daughter in for bed so I can try to get my work done in a quiet setting, the last reason why we decided to stay. The hallways were so loud all night long. There were people on both sides of us making so much noise; there was also a family of elephants upstairs running around all hours of the night waking up my daughter. Safe to say, I didn't get any work done at all that night.
So in the morning, we decide to give things one more try. We go downstairs to the pool 15 minutes before it opens, hoping we could be the first swim for even a few minutes before it gets overcrowded. When we got to the pool, we counted 19 people. Immensely saddened again, we left. I tried to find someone to talk to at the front desk, hoping they could let us know when it's safe to swim, but we hadn't seen anyone at the front desk since we checked in yesterday afternoon.
So we go up to our room, maybe it's Quieter now, and I'll be able to get some work done, and my daughter can watch a movie. The noise hasn't slowed at all. I could full-on heat the conversations that were being held in the rooms next to us, and the hallways were outrageously busy, which was so strange as the parking lot wasn't very full. Like they didn't space out the rooms and put everyone on the same couple of floors.
So finally, after giving the hotel many many tries, having an awful evening, terrible sleep, and having to travel for any food, I call the front desk to cancel our stay for the night coming up so we can go to a different hotel.
The first time I called, no one answered. Then finally, when I got ahold of the front desk, I told them about what had been happening. The lady laughed and said yes, a big family is staying with us. She did not offer any help. She did, however, allow us to cancel our stay as it wasn't check-out time yet. I have yet to see if I was spared the charge for the second night, as it is still pending on my credit card.
It was very unfortunate that they did not offer us any compensation for our awful stay that was nothing but hectic and sad.
I'm not one to ever write reviews, but this was crazy.
We then booked a room at the Cambridge in downtown Red Deer, and they were exceptionally wonderful, gave us an early check-in at 11 as I told them what had happened. They even blocked off private pool time for my daughter and gave us a discount for our stay to apologize for a hotel that they weren't even affiliated with.
Why is there a COVID charge if no precautions were being followed by the hotel?
Safe to say I will never stay at a Holiday Inn again.

We stayed for a hockey tournament. The team booking was more expensive than any website and has a cancellation policy of one week, more than the websites. The hotel was average for stay, overpriced because of the tournament. When speaking with management, we were told one thing and given another. When I called the booking manager directly, she told me she'd get back to me and never did. I called back a week later and she didn't remember me until I went through everything again (yes, same woman). I was told I'd get a call back later in the week and it never happened again, I caled again and left a message that i would be leaving a poor review unless they called me back (3rd time), I never heard back. I will avoid this and other Holiday Inn because of this experience from a manager.

Very nice room, but terrible pillows. All were way to soft.
The staff was fantastic.
I wasn't on the top floor and could hear every step the guest above me made.

I have no issues with my stay at this location, comfortable rooms, very clean. We used the conference rooms meals were very good and on time with very minimal disruptions.

We enjoyed our stay so much we didn't want to leave! The room was very large, which made it easy for our family of 4 to spend a lot of time there. My husband is in a wheelchair but the room and washroom were so big we didn't need the accessible room.
The kids really enjoyed the pool (although beware: the waterslide moves fast and has the potential to burn your skin on dry sections)
Having a separate sleeping space with bunk beds was exactly what we needed. And the kitchenette, with it's apartment sized fridge, was great. Plastic dishes were provided but staff offered to bring real dishes from the restaurant, which was very helpful.
The beds were high quality; very comfortable and clean. The whole room felt very clean.
The staff at this location were so wonderful, constantly going out of their way to make our stay extra-special.
There are only 2 things that would have made our stay an 11 out of 10: If there had been a guide on the TV to see what was coming up and if the bathroom could have been stocked with 4 facecloths instead of 3. (funny there were 4 towels but only 3 facecloths and hand towels?)
The room cost was above what we would normally pay but we do feel that we got good value for what we spent.
We're already talking about when we might be able to go back again!

Very functional and comfortable room and bed. Small kitchenette worked well for our needs. Little living room to relax in and watch tv.

Booked this hotel for our wedding, and not a single complaint from anyone! Staff was so friendly and giving the kids treats. The food was amazing, and it was a great experience
