Stay in our Holiday Inn Express® Helena hotels to explore Montana's capital city, cradled in the foothills of the Montana Rockies. Cast a line for trout in nearby Missouri River or plunge down powdery runs at the Great Divide snowsports park.
Helena's roots stretch back to the day in 1864 when desperate prospectors finally struck gold in a ravine they named Last Chance Gulch. A boom ensued, and today the city's Main Street occupies the historic gulch near our Helena hotels. Hike the easy 1906 Trail at Mount Helena City Park to see the city and surrounding foothills below you from the summit of Mount Helena; more extensive trails thread the mountain and nearby ridges. The Montana State Capitol, an imposing granite and sandstone structure topped by a copper-clad dome, is on the city's upper east side and offers free tours. Board a boat on the Missouri River for a ride through the Gates of the Mountains. Legendary explorer Meriwether Lewis named this stretch of trail for the towering cliffs that appeared to open before him and his party as they traversed this meandering river.
A three-block stretch of Main Street turns into the Last Chance Gulch Pedestrian Mall near our hotels in Helena. Site of frequent summer festivals and evening art crawls, the walkway is home to shops and eateries. Stop here at lunchtime for a quick sandwich or hearty bowl of soup. In the evening linger over grilled steaks washed down with local microbrews at eateries clustered along Last Chance Gulch or at Great Northern Town Center, which anchors the north end of downtown near our Helena hotels.

Hotel was wonderful, friendly staff, clean comfortable rooms. Close to shopping.[Less]
Except for an internet outage, it was perfect. Very comfortable bed and great location. My preferred hotel for Helena.[Less]
clean and convenient hotel
This hotel is in a great location and was clean. The kids enjoyed the pool and hot tub and said the pool was warm unlike a lot of hotel pools. The pool area was nice and comfortable to sit in and[More] watch kids swim. Breakfast was nice - the staff was constantly refilling the eggs and sausage and very on top of making sure everyone was able to get what they wanted. The beds and pillows were comfortable. I will stay here again in the future.[Less]
