Nice Hotel, Comfortable Room, NO Breakfast!

We reserved a 2 night stay at the Holiday Inn Express at 32 East Main Street, Dahlonega, Georgia for December 27-28, 2021. We arrived early and walked around town until our room was ready at 3:00pm. Our room was on the 2nd floor and was clean, fresh and modern. We appreciated the attached parking garage especially the morning we left when it was pouring rain. When we returned to the hotel after dinner our first night I asked the desk clerk what time breakfast was in the morning and was told it was served between 6:30-9:30am. We went down for breakfast shortly after 7:00 and found there was NO hot breakfast, only cereal. Had we been told the night before we could have made other plans. The morning desk clerk told us the cook had quit a week earlier. A good hot breakfast is something we have always expected and been pleased with staying at Holiday Inn Hotels. We were very disappointed especially because there were no convenient close by places to eat breakfast. The second morning again NO hot breakfast and now there was also NO milk for cereal. We and others asked the clerk if someone could be sent to at least get milk? She said she couldn’t go. We asked if the manager could and we were told the manager lived in the hotel but didn’t get up and come in until 9:00. Having been in management positions my whole career I would have assumed the duties of cook OR contracted with local restaurants to supply some breakfast items. Instead, the manager put the clerks in the awkward position of explaining the lack of food to customers. It was a shame that a stay at a nice hotel was ruined by the lack of breakfast and the lack of concern on the part of the manager. We did ask if there would be a discount for our stay and she said she could give is a 10% discount that she proceeded to enter into the computer. When we checked out our bill did not reflect the discount so the clerk that morning again entered the discount for us. We would stay here again only if this issue was resolved.

Unhappy

Water-bug In room. Breakfast was terrible. I realize that things have changed with the Covid-19, but breakfast was terrible! Jimmy Dean sausage biscuits were served. Not a lot of choices for breakfast. No milk on our last day. They have a parking garage but the spaces were not very good. After telling front desk how unhappy we were, no apologizes were given.

Disappointed!

We had heard so much about the new boutique hotel coming to Dahlonega, but we were very disappointed in what we experienced. It seemed as if they opened the hotel before it was ready. On one elevator there was duct tape holding down some of the flooring at the elevator door. In our room, the trim was coming off the closet door, the shower stall had several nicks in the finish and the sheetrock above the mirror looked unfinished. The complimentary breakfast was inadequate. The only hot food available was a few Jimmy Dean egg and sausage biscuits. The toaster was a 4 slice toaster, but it only toasted on the left side of the toaster.
The hotel seemed overpriced for the quality of the experience. Based on our experience, we would not recommend this hotel.

Misleading pictures (bait and switch)

I am not one to post negative comments without first giving the manager or owner a chance to explain and fix customer dissatisfaction, but I wrote in and have yet to hear anything. First let me start by stating I am very familiar with the area we stayed at typically I would choose to stay in a private cabin for the same price, but had friends staying in this hotel, we decided against our better judgment to stay in the hotel.

Let me start with the bait and switch. The pictures online are currently misleading, to say the least. There is mention of a pool, there was no pool for use during the weekend. There was a nice picture of a gym, and of course, the gym was closed. Lastly, the picture of the breakfast bar online could not be further from the truth. People fought like animals to secure a cold jimmy johnson biscuit in the morning. Most of our group had the choice of an apple or a packaged muffin as everything else would run out constantly and no staff was there to refill. This is a far cry from the unlimited photos that scroll on advertisements.

This brings me to staffing, the front desk seemed to be empty most of the time as they were running around fixing other issues, from the exit gate of the parking deck to fielding complaints about no pool, gym, or breakfast.

Also having cleaning staff wait outside your room 10 minutes before you are required to leave, makes you feel a little less like a person and more like a herd. Trying to get everything squared away to get back to town is stressful enough when the custodial team is not standing outside your door, tapping their foot.

It is safe to say this hotel might have opened a little fast, but I will not know as I will not be staying here again until someone from management can explain how they will win back as a customer.

A/C issues

I was trying to post a comment but the site will only let me post another review. I forgot to add that during the night the thermostat was set to 68 degrees and I woke up several times each night - sweaty and uncomfortable. No way it was anywhere near 68. We were in the bed next to the vent and kept the fan running to try to get some circulation. I was surprised by this and the thermostat would not go any lower than 68 degrees. Never had an issue with the A/C in a hotel before.

We have stayed at the other Holiday Inn in Dahlonega many times and were looking forward to the new one. It newness and cleanliness are the positives. Negatives include no directions in the room on how to operate the heating/air, no notification of no room service for more than one night, no milk for breakfast that only offers cereal and muffins! Hope they get their act together! We are in Dahlonega looking after family a lot!
