Terrible Property

I am a 2+ decade IHG member, so I have stayed at more hotels than I can count over 26 years of traveling. With that said, this was without a doubt the worst stay at a Holiday Inn Express (Duncanville, TX) I have ever had!! Let’s start with the property. There was trash, beer/beverage cans, and cigarette butts scattered around the poorly maintained landscape. Lots of weeds, terrible parking lot, clearly no grounds keeper. The floors in the dining area are sticky from who knows what. The breakfast choices for a non-meat, plant-based eater was stark at best. The pancake machine was inoperative, so ended up eating off property each day, not very convenient. The room was ok, not great, but ok. Needed to buy a room freshener from the dollar store once the “new room smell” spray wore off…..lol. Shower grout in the corner had some sort of science experiment going on, not sure, but nasty. When I checked in, I wanted a room near the back of the property to mitigate the freeway noise out front. That was working ok until a commercial big rig truck parked in the parking lot right outside my window and ran a generator for two nights straight!! Yeah, no sleep with that nonsense going on. I notified the front desk, once by phone, once in person and left a phone message with the manager….NOTHING done to correct this at all, very disappointing!! They did offer to move me to a different room, closer to the freeway noise I was trying to avoid in the first place. They just couldn’t figure it out. I guess if I was playing my radio too loud, they would move guest to other rooms rather than ask me to turn down the music, go figure. Makes no sense to me!! I picked this place for a four night working stay because the reviews were good and it was close to where I needed to be. Don’t be fooled by the review photos, this place is not that at all. I ended up leaving a day early and found a different competitor to give my money to. I am surprised at IHG oversight of this property, they are usually very good places to stay, but not so here. There was also construction going on in sections of the property that was never mentioned. Find a better IHG property for your stay!! The manager will respond to this review with the usual “sorry you were disappointed in your stay, we will work to correct this and”…….yada, yada, yada. But this is a long-term property and customer service decline that doesn’t happen in a short period of time and usually gets worse before it gets better. Shop wisely my fellow travelers.

Amazing value and Extremely friendly staff

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. My husband and I were traveling with three children 3 years old and under, needless to say, we needed all the help we could get. Anytime we asked for something, the staff was quick to help.

Poor Service with front desk Rep / unclean room

My biggest complaint is regarding how the front desk representative's attitude was with me when I asked him to let the person in the room above me to try not to walk so hard on the floor. I can understand that everyone is different and some people walk harder than others but the guest above me had extremely heavy feet. I didn't want to complain but we didn't get to our room until late so we were tired after driving from Houston and just wanted to relax. At first the representative was understanding but when he went to talk to the other guest he assumed I was speaking of a family that had kids in the room. They were not over me. After I called the second time asking if he could speak to the person again I could tell in his tone that he wanted to be a little rude then came to my door knocking on it as if I was in a house. When me and my daughter answered the door, you could see the frustration on his face asking us where are we hearing the noise because the guest with the kids were in the bed and there was only 1 person over me. He informed both that the heavy walking was bothering us but he only needed to inform the person that was over us. Apparently when he went to ask the guest the first time he didn't inform the person over us which is why I had to call back. Had he went to the correct room he would have saved us both frustration from a second call. Also, I was charged a deposit for incidentals that I was never told we needed to pay when registering for our stay. That was unexpected and when entering the room, there had been plenty incidentals from the guests before us which was never cleaned. Our stay would have been perfect other wise. There was a huge place over the tub that looked like it could be mold but wasn't sure. I love Holiday Inn Express but will never stay at this location again. The second night was much better. I wanted to upload images but having issues at this time doing so.

Good place but for a holiday inn express sub-par

If you're a platinum like me(travel 40 plus weeks a year) you get used to every holiday inn express being different. This location missed a few marks especially on customer service. I had to ask for an upgrade and for newspaper service that are standard perks of being a platinum member. But it did have a comfortable bed. For its location the value seemed about right but there are other competitive hotels less than 2 miles away that I'll stay in if I am in this area again.

There were issues with the tv requiring a special remote every time I turned the tv off and back on. After calling the front desk about the issue 3 times, they finally just gave me the second remote to keep in the room.
The fridge just froze everything I put in it, and I never was able to find a thermostat to adjust. When I asked the man at the front desk about sending someone to check it for me, he said "I know your fridge and it's old. It doesn't have a thermostat. Nothing we can do." There was no offer to get me a different fridge or different room.
The first morning of my stay, I did not receive my wakeup call that I requested. It's a good thing I wasn't relying solely on that to get me up that morning.
Other than that, the stay was pretty good. The bed was very comfortable, lots of pillows, very clean, and the breakfast was great.

Business traveler be cautious

This location may not fit your needs if you are a business traveler, at least it did not meet mine.
I needed to call the internet support person (front desk not able to assist) each night I was there and they attempted to resolve but there is weak to no service in my guest rooms.
I checked out a day early as I needed to accomplish work related items and the frustration was too much.
I asked to be contacted about the stay, I'm still waiting.

Enjoyable Experience

I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. I was very comfortable and clean. I did not expect such a breakfast. It was totally delicious-sausage & eggs & real pancakes-not waffles, which I never eat. The lady in the cafeteria was very polite, friendly and pleasant to be around. The front desk lady was also friendly. Thanks for making my stay enjoyable. It was well worth the money. I recommend this hotel to all.

Well the hotel is easy to find and right next to the highway. That said you hear the noise from the highway in rooms facing the road. Once you get over seeing a Duncanville police car in the parking lot, the lobby is nice. However, the rooms are a bit tired looking. Stains on the carpet and spots in the ceiling where there's been water leaks. Nothing about this was anything but average.
Staff bless their heart were very accommodating and nothing but the most professional and kind.
