Manager is the “Winner”

We booked at this property for 5 nights, a King Suite with a Mountain View. We checked in around 8:30 p.m. and at check-in I verified with the lady at the desk, Beth, that it had a Mountain View which she confirmed. I did not think to verify the suite because I could not imagine it would be overlooked and not given to us or commented on.
We got to the room and I realized that we were not in the king suite and that the view we were in looked directly at the unsightly stucco canopy where vehicles stopped to discharge passengers at the hotel entrance. I called the front desk and was told that they were fully booked for the evening but that I could move in the morning and that I should talk to the manager, Sonja Valasquez.
In the morning, Ms. Valasquez came out of the front office with her office arms crossed, no smile and a look in her eyes that spoke volumes about her state of mind. At my “good morning”, she grunted “uh-huh”. I introduced myself and told her my room number; another “uh-huh”. I explained the mistake that had been made and got yet another “uh-huh”. All of this with her arms crossed and a full-blown attitude that does not belong in the hospitality business. I was blown away! This lady had absolutely no interest in doing her job and could care less about rectifying the mistake made by her establishment. She did all of this in front of her subordinate, demonstrating to her employees that it was ok to be rude and unaccommodating to the guests.
I asked to be moved to what I had booked and if available a better view (preferably mountain) than the front covered drive with the constant loading and unloading of guests going on. Sonja, was not having that; she was absolutely not helpful, or cooperative and had no interest in being friendly (or civil) to her guests. There was no “I’m sorry, let me see what I can do for you” rather she stated no rooms were available and that she was not going to help me. I had gone on-line and was able to verify availability though I would have had to re-book and re-pay for a king suite. So not only was she unhelpful, unfriendly but also a liar!
I asked to speak to her supervisor. She stated that she was the district manager and she did not have a supervisor. I found this to be ridiculous and really laughable. Simply put, her behavior and actions clearly stated how unsuitable she was at her job and DEFINITELY did not run things. Her inability to handle the simple request of a room change without coming out the “winner”, at the expense her employer’s occupancy and profit margin, tells you how ill-suited to the job she was. Lastly, and the crazy final straw was when she threatened to call security. My reasonable request and her inability to problem solve and her need to “one-up” the guest had her escalating a situation. Gray haired granny ran out of Holiday Inn because manager was having a bad day. Lord what a story that tells.
We left. I found another hotel. I am going through the process of a $500+ refund, determined to enjoy our trip to Albuquerque though it got off to a horrible start with this hotel, and I write this review so that the Management and future guests are aware of the rude and unfriendly manager it has in, Sonya Velasquez, who had no desire to rectify a mistake that could have easily been solved with a smile and a simple “I’m sorry, let me see what I can do to make this better.”
My takeaway, is that the indifference of this manager, with no interest in doing the job that her employer was paying her to do, while treating people with no civility speaks volumes about this establishment. I am blown away that this person has a job, as a manager and represents the Holiday Inn!

A Top Teir Hotel for Holiday Inn Express!

This is in the top 1 percent of the Holiday Inn Express! A very nice hotel with excellent people working at it. The breakfast was the best one I've had at HIG since the covid problems. The room was clean and the halls were quiet. We will stay here again! Keep up the Excellent Work!

Don't stay here

the staff was rude, the manager was worse. The room was over priced for the so called jacuzzi and so called top of the line rooms. The breakfast was not all you wanted it was a choice of this or that. The worst thing is that they kept my $200 deposit for falsely accusing me of smoking weed in the room. I will be reporting to the BBB and hope that cooperate will help resolve this issue. I know there is video footage of me going out at about 730am and 10pm valentines night to smoke this is very disappointing considering you are a high ranked hotel.

Justin- front desk

When we arrived there was some difficulty with the check in process. People were becoming frazzled. However Justin at the front desk was so kind and apologetic to all. He did so well under pressure, which he was receiving from a few guests. He made as many people comfortable as possible and I even noticed him running around trying to make sure everyone was able to relax.

Always a wonderful stay!

This location is a favorite place of mine to stay when in Albuquerque. The management here have been very active in making this Hotel a success. I have personally seen improvements in guest relations, security, room cleanliness, and staff interaction. IHG should be proud of this location for sure. I recommend this hotel and will continue to visit here.

Excellent help from Front Desk Staff

There was a problem with our first room. (Blinds were not working properly) Once we found the issue, we called the front desk. LeeVanna took our call and offered us a room switch or to have someone come look at the blinds. Since we hadn't really settled in yet, we took the room switch. LeeVanna personally came up with new keys and helped us move our stuff. New room was great! Great customer service from LeeVanna.

Well below our HIE expectations

This review actually covers two stays, 9/23 and 9/29. My wife and I travel with our three dogs and prefer to stay at three of the IHG brand facilities, We've stayed at this hotel before but we won't be here again. The only reason we didn't cancel the second reservation was the advance payment. (1) This hotel only allows pets in their smallest rooms. (2) The Wifi didn't work and the phone system was lousy. (3) On Monday, the staff was uniformly uninterested, trending to surly. (4) I'm allergic to eggs and the breakfast attendant informed me they never serve the usual HIE biscuits and gravy. (5) An unusual note, the assigned room on 9/29 was even worse than the first (no table and chair). However, the afternoon clerk rapidly moved us back to the room we'd had before and later solved the Wifi problem by providing an Ethernet cord. I spent several years as a management trouble shooter for a multinational corporation and it's very unusual to find a competent gem in an otherwise mediocre staff. Unfortunately it won't be enough to bring us back next year, but fortunately there are other options available.

This was our second stay at this hotel. We are snowbirds and plan to make this a regular stop. The staff here is so friendly and efficient! It's an easy on and off the interstate and there are lots of great restaurants close by. All in all, it works out very well for us and would highly recommend it. It's also very clean.

This was a girl trip to New Mexico. This location was perfect since we wanted to go to Acoma, Old town and other sites in Albuquerque. This Holiday Inn Express had a perfect location for everything we wanted to see. We enjoyed the breakfast. There was a good variety of choices.
