Daphnes first fame was at the turn of the century as a dance pavilion. This elegant open air structure was located just inside the confines of the present day Veterans Memorial State Park. The railroad had a hand in setting up the pavilion and ran excursions out to it from Cordele. People would pack a picnic basket, dress up in their Sunday whites, and go to Daphne for the whole day.
