DO NOT STAY HERE - A Tale of 2 Hotels in Keene

First of all, I am not someone to write these types of reviews, and I am typically one to be patient through any circumstances I face; however, this must be said.

We travelled to Keene for 2 weekends in a row for our kids’ hockey tournaments (2 different kids’ teams; 2 different hotels). We stayed at C by M the first weekend, and Holiday Inn the next weekend as that is where our team’s families booked each weekend. We have also stayed at many different hotels (including other Holiday Inns) as a team of families for various soccer and hockey tournaments all over NH & MA. This Holiday Inn takes home the trophy as being the least accommodating accommodation, the least hospitable, and the most expensive we have ever experienced!

Our kids and parents were constantly being yelled at, harassed, and treated unequally all weekend long as they tried to hang out with one another and enjoy the weekend. Here are some examples:
1. At breakfast on Saturday morning, our kids took up 3 tables and were eating breakfast, calmly hanging out, and talking (with at least 4 other tables available for other guests) when they were instructed they must leave the area immediately since they were done eating as the other hotel guests were not able to sit and eat since they were afraid of the group. Meanwhile, there were a couple of other tables who were done eating and sitting and chatting as people should when the area is not that busy, and they were never spoken to to leave as our boys were.
2. There was a man who appeared to be homeless that would hang out in the lobby and walk around the hotel. He even asked some different people in our group for some beer and smokes. At one point, as I was walking down the hall and he was walking toward me, he stopped for a while just staring as I approached. Nothing happened but it concerned me.
3. Since our group was constantly being told of the hotel receiving noise complaints, the hotel was asked if we could RENT the space typically used as the breakfast dining area to spend time together, which we were denied and it remained roped off. (This was the only bigger area in the whole hotel that could be used for a larger group.)
4. After playing 2 hockey games in a day, our teenagers came back to a hotel with NO HOT WATER for the remainder of the night.
5. A family rented a room next door to us and the hotel did not even tell them they did not have any hot water!
6. Our kids were told by a staff person at one point that they were allowed to play floor hockey in this one part of a hallway, which was then denied by a different staff member!
7. The shower head and tub spigot in our bathroom constantly dripped or ran water out of it. We had to keep playing plumber all weekend to try to get the water to stop. We had to make sure a towel was under and on top of the spigot to not hear the constant dripping. The drain was also verrrry slow. (Please see the picture! A video couldn’t be uploaded to this.). When you got a shower, you would stand in 5 inches of water as you showered. We told the staff to which we were told someone would come and fix it. No one came while we were there.
8. On our checkout day, many of our keys stopped working. I’m not convinced that it was a mere coincidence.
9. When several asked the hotel to be able to check out just 30 minutes later than the normal checkout time, they were denied. They were told that they needed to clean the rooms for the turnaround time. (This was a Sunday into a Monday in Keene in the middle of March.)
10. When I checked out, I asked for a printed receipt, which I was denied. I was told that because I booked through a third party, I could only be given a print out that I stayed there.
11. Between all of the families in our group that stayed in this hotel, we paid this hotel between 8&9k for 2 nights of constant grief and stress!

By way of comparing our stay in Keene the weekend before at the remarkably accommodating and inviting C by M to our stay at this hotel, it was like night and day!
1. C by M had a large open area with tables and chairs where we were able to order pizzas and meals in, eat there for our dinners, and hang out as a team. The kids could play floor hockey, and we weren’t even yelled at or talked to once! It even accommodated 2 large groups!
2. We always had hot water!
3. Our bathroom shower/tub didn’t drip at all!
4. Because our team made it to the championship game that afternoon, we had over 4 hours to waste. The C by M allowed guests to check out an hour later than the normal checkout time. Not only that, but they also allowed our group to utilize the big room in the lobby for the entire 4 hours in the afternoon and the use of their lobby bathroom until it was game time for FREE!
5. When I checked out and asked for a receipt, the receptionist happily accommodated even though I booked through a third party.

What a difference in hotels!

Worst Stay

When I made my reservation I said I would need an adjoining room with a family member that would be making a reservation also. We were both told to call the day we were expected to arrive to confirm this preference only to that day be told..."oops sorry can't accommodate you" and then to so kindly put us so far away from each other. And Come to find out it's because the hoards of hockey families that were booked in that ran through the hotel late into the night and up before the birds. Wouldn't have been so bad if there was any breakfast at 8:45am and if what was there like the bacon, was cooked or the 5 omeletes weren't burned. And nothing was going to be repleneshed when staff was notified. And when did hotels stop cleaning hotel rooms. I brought this up when I was checking out and I called and spoke to the manager after I got home. How in times of Covid do we not clean rooms. She gave me this line of they don't do that anymore and that she heard her staff inform me when i checked in but that is a whole LIE!!!!! I am a retired nurse so that is not something i would not hear.

Nicer than I expected

We stayed here for 3 days and 2 nights. The rooms were a lot cleaner than the last time westayed at a Holiday Inn. The interior of the hotel was a lot more pretty than some of the reviews said due to renovation construction. The facilities had alredy been renovated. The complementary breakfast choices were limited, but worth it. However, the pool was very small and there were little to no people going in it. The fitness center was also very small and had limited options. I give this place 4/5 stars, would come again.

Super Considerate

Everything with our room was great! Unfortunately, a medical issue with my husband spoiled our ability to enjoy it.
The night manager Andrew, was very understanding of our situation, and helped us out a lot. I can’t thank him enough. A hotel run by caring and understanding people is a HUGE plus!

Our room was large enough to accommodate two people nicely. The lighting was adequate for the space. Having the dressing/sink area separate was nice for two people.

Great hotel at a fair price

The staff at this hotel were very friendly, and accommodating. The room was clean, and the bedding was actually so comfortable that when we got home, we did some research and ordered the same pillows and bedding that the hotel used! The hot breakfast that was included was also pretty good, and filling. If you are not looking for anything fancy, but a nice, clean, and reasonably priced place to stay in beautiful Keene, NH. This is where its at!

We always stay at the Holiday Inn in Keene, NH because of the care and attention of the staff. The condition of the building is very good and the staff is attentive and friendly. Great hotel vist

This is a great hotel to stay at for one or several nights. The hotel staff greeted us warmly, the premises both outside and in were clean and well-lit. Our room was great and comfortable for the nights we stayed. Our only real criticism of the place was the overly soft mattress. The included breakfast was adequate if you stay only one or two nights but we stayed four and it got a bit boring.
