Overcharged and still no refund

By

August 19, 2021

Whilst the hotel itself is nice and central, like the recent experience of several customers our 3 night stay was overshadowed by the fact we were overcharged on payment for the accommodation on arrival, and I'm still waiting for a refund (or indeed a response from them at all).

I booked 3 nights stay for 4 people in 2 rooms - the booking was made in February for our stay last week. The booking was made directly with the hotel and not a third party site like Booking.com. We have written confirmation of the room rate, which quite clearly states that the price included breakfast.

On checking in I was informed that the system indicated our reservation didn't include breakfast, and that for 4 people for 3 days that would be an additional £179.40. It was late and so I just paid so we could unpack and be assured of our breakfast in the morning.

I subsequently dug out the confirmation email which was totally clear that the price included breakfast, and I should not have been charged this additional amount.

Over the next 2 days I made 3 visits to reception to sort this out - on the third visit I eventually got an admission from a member of the reception staff (who reviewed my booking with his manager in front of me) that I should not have been charged extra - "don't worry Mr Hill, we will issue a refund to your card".

15 days after our visit, I am still waiting for my refund, and in fact I've just sent another email to them as it is now 5 days since I last emailed them and I've not even had the courtesy of a response in all that time. No response from reception, the Operations Manager or the general manager!

To rub salt in the wounds, on arrival at breakfast on the second morning the young lady said that it appeared I hadn't prepaid breakfast!! I pointed out to her that I has in fact paid for breakfast TWICE. A quick visit by her to reception, and suddenly I had paid after all.

Extremely poor customer service all round, and on our next visit to Manchester we will certainly not be using this hotel. My advice, AVOID.

(I won't bore you with the details on the non-working TV in one of the rooms, which they quite clearly had no interest in even trying to get fixed..., or the poor quality, often cold breakfasts)

Misleading offer

By

May 29, 2021

Stayed overnight for my husbands birthday. We choose the hotel Indigo as before lockdown we'd had an excellent meal in the Mamucium restaurant. Booked a deal with room, breakfast and 3 course evening meal for £119. However when it came to our evening meal we were told we got £20 each towards our restaurant bill. So not the 3 course meal as advertised or expected. Had we known this we wouldn't have booked this deal. The meal was really disappointing. Chips and onion rings out of a bag and not handmade as I'd expect for a £29 fillet steak meal. Bernaise sauce was vile. Just a creamy vinegar substance. Smoked salmon came sprawled across a plate with a dollop of something on top but with no bread or dutch toast. All in all extremely disappointing and especially as it was a meal for my husbands birthday. Breakfast wasnt great either. Overcooked everything. Sausages and beans were ok. Tasteless eggs, driedmiut mushroom and black pudding and toast given a cursory glance at the toaster so was cold and tough. It all came tepid and hot warm. Coffee was tasty and staff were nice. A really disappointing stay and wont return

Strange booking

By

December 05, 2019

I was given a room designed for a handicapped person with a wheelchair. I did not request for such a room at any point. Even if the room was spacious, the bathroom did not work for a person with no need for a wheelchair. Thus the mirror was positioned too low, the washbasin was ridiculously small etc. At least the guest should be asked beforehand, if (s)he prefers such a room.

If you like queuing in the street

By

November 25, 2019

Had to queue for half an hour to check in. No Elite/Priority check in available. They’ve ‘opted out’ of this benefit for people who stay 70+ nights. Queue extended onto the street. Reception desk staffed by only two people and was told this is routine and ‘works itself out’.
Was emailed in advance, asking what kind of room we wanted. Chose high floor, away from lift. We got the room closest to the lift on the 3rd floor.
Shower was luke warm.
Complained during the check in queue to Hotel via twitter. They responded quickly offering to follow up, but despite having my email, phone number, Twitter account, address, name and sleeping in a room they chose for me, they have no way of contacting me. They’re not receiving DMs on twitter and no one has managed to explain the two star level of service offered here.

Have a further visit booked for December. Not looking forward to it.

Great hotel and staff.

By

July 07, 2019

One of the best, if not the best hotel I have stayed in. Rooms are great - quiet, spacious, great beds and shower. Staff are so friendly and helpful. I have stayed here many times and this is my preferred hotel in Manchester.
