Wonderful Hotel

Stunning hotel. Staff very professional and friendly. Couldn’t do enough to please. The bed was amazing, and love the new sustainable sized bath products. Room service quality was great and well priced.

Overall it was fine, just a couple of things could have been better

Overall it was a night stay. Membership was acknowledged but no choice of amenities were offered, But the room cleanliness was a bit disappointed. There was post-vacuum dust residue everywhere (even took the picture). I did put the greener stay tag outside the room to opt out from the service, but I still haven’t received any greener stay points. Chrome cast was also an issue and it didn’t work for the entire stay. Since I’m not a big fan of complaining I just let it go. But yeah, apart from this, it was ok.

Disappointment is an understatement

We stayed recently for 2 nights for my best friends wedding. Even though we’re Sydney locals we thought we would celebrate and treat ourselves for convenience etc so booked a suite. I had requested an early check in as I was part of the bridal party and thought my partner could relax and use the facilities etc. Which they had said wouldn’t be a problem. When we arrived for hair and make up at 11am this wasn’t the case and said they would let us know when the room was ready. We didn’t get into our room until 3:15. When we finally got to level 3 there was an overwhelming smell of body odour from the 4 male housekeepers. The suite was tired, smelt like stale cigarettes, only had one robe which was so worn it had a hole in it, furniture tired cheap and uninviting. The room service was below average. The lifts to the rooftop didn’t work so I waited 30 minutes for a drink then had to call the manager to let us down to our floor. The bar is closed, half the hotel is under renovation there was a builder leaning against the piano picking his nose. I’ve left feeling robbed honestly. The valet parking also isn’t included. I didn’t have time to complain as I had a wedding to attend and didn’t want to bring down the morale but on reflection it was awful.

Beautiful property, extreemly poor service

We stayed here in a lovely suite for several nights, the property and rooms are beautiful however the service was extreemly poor. Staff were terribly trained, unhelpful and unable to accomodate simple requests without very time consuming and difficult conversations.
House keeping was so poor I actually took photos of the mess they totally ignored. wet towels were overlooked, beds poorly made, coffee tables not wiped. we actually had to take our own dirty glasses out of the room and leave them in the hall after house keeping had been. These were not replaced the next day either!
Room service took 30min to send ice and we were charged for someone else's parking.
I have stayed in 5 star properties all over the world and this was very average comparably. even for a mid range hotel, i would expect better. Pool was lovely however as it had rained the night before, all the seating cushions were soaked. Could they not be swapped for dry ones when the pool is opened in the morning??
I am happy to pay for good service however I do actually expect to get what i have paid for and unfortunately this was not the case at this property. Several other guests reported the same experience as we actually had 2 suits and had recommended guests to the property previously.

Underwhelming

If you're after a luxury hotel experience I'd recommend you try somewhere else.

Attention to detail sets a mediocre hotel apart from an impressive one and Intercontinental Double Bay is left a bit lacking.

On entering our room there was a bottle of wine, chocolates and a welcome note, addressed to someone else. Called reception and let them know they might have mixed up the rooms.

Half an hour later a staff member arrives at the door with a bottle of champagne. We suggested they may perhaps have the wrong room again? Yes they did - and promptly took back the champagne and the wine and the chocolates.

It's enough to make Basil Fawlty blush.

Two of the five lamps in our room didn't work. The controller next to the bed to operate the curtains was broken. The scales in the bathroom were out of batteries.

All small things, but something a $600 a night hotel should be able to get right.

The view across the harbour is lovely. All the rubbish on the common hotel balcony that no-one could be bothered picking up, not so much.

Whether mismanagement or laziness, it feels a little bit like the hotel has given up on being anything more than just barely ok.

Having purchased in the 1788 building over the road, I need to come to Double bay for a meeting with the developers and builder. The Intercontinental was in the perfect spot.

I had confirmed my suite booking and arrived to a cool reception from the lady in reception behind the desk. She wore a thick mask and it was difficult to hear her behind the clear screen. She was also quite brusque with me as I had the problem hearing her.

The benefits of being in a suite (in a 5 star hotel) seemed a bit lackluster, especially in the bathroom with a distinct lack of amenities and luxuries that you would normally expect.
No face pads, no ear buds and only one cake of soap.
Is this a cost saving

The (phone-inhouse) systems were not working right, I couldn't get my phone to work except on Speaker.

Also with a 5 star hotel I expected a smart TV in our room, the TV was old and we were unable to log on to our Netflix or Stan account and had to purchase, at a ridiculous cost, a movie to watch.

Our experience was middling to good, but we expected more,

We had a guest join us for cocktails and we had the grazing plate, 4 half slices of toast, we asked for a bit more toast and was charged $5 for another slice... OMG!!
There is such a thing as good old fashioned service to customers, but seems in short supply throughout the hotel....so sad as I love the Intercontinental and always have.

Will still stay there again as it it most convenient.
