Only negative review ever given an IHG hotel

Arrive for our room and desk was very helpful putting us into a room. We were placed into a ground floor room designated handicap. My preference is clearly stated a room on the upper floors. After entering the room, it was found to be less than clean. When I showed the front desk the photographs they agreed to send someone down to clean the room. I requested to be given a different room and was told that they could not accommodate me. As a result of this I canceled the remainder of my weeklong reservation and moved to a different IHG hotel. It was disappointing to see the staffs unwillingness or inability to even try and adjust my accommodations. I have never requested a room change previously in my many years of using IHG branded hotels. One final comment. The designated smoking area is directly in front of the entrance to the lobby. It’s a very unpleasant area to walk through and should be moved farther away from the entrance. The IHG,“cleanliness guarantee”, sadly failed me on this visit.

I'd like to start by saying IHG has an entire portion of their website dedicated to travel advisories during Covid-19 and it should definitely be looked over before booking. As for this hotel this place is brand new and well maintained. We checked in a for a five night stay while we were visiting friends in the area. It was centrally located to their house, but also to so many restaurants in Johnson City. They had the bulk supplies for the bathroom, and the receptionists were all really sweet. The check-in/check-out process was easy and they had sanitizing stations for the cards. I will agree with another reviewer that staff weren't wearing masks, but that was not an anomaly in Johnson City, nobody wore masks. The only con, that wasn't actually a problem for us, was breakfast. As a result of Covid the breakfast menus have been super limited and are grab and go only, which is fine I totally understand why. However, the only options were muffins, a couple of fruit options (bananas/oranges), instant oatmeal packets, and some chobani yogurt. Other IHG hotels had pre-wrapped sandwiches that you could take to your room and microwave and I was disappointed that this hotel didn't offer similar options, but I understand that states have different Covid rules. As stated this wasn't an issue for us because we just bought breakfast stuff and cooked in the room, because it had a full kitchen. Overall, I'd definitely come back and stay at this hotel.
