Denver, Colo., August 15, 2017
Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants unlocks a new gateway to the Rockies today with the opening of Kimpton Hotel Born Denver, the long-awaited anchor for Denver’s revitalized Union Station neighborhood and Colorado’s transportation hub. Located at the end of the Union Station platform and in the heart of one of the most dynamic urban centers in the country, every detail of Hotel Born – from Bavarian inspired materials to exposed concrete ceilings, from floor to ceiling windows to 700 original works by local Denver artists – has been crafted to impart an elevated, urban vibe that is uniquely Colorado.
“Denver is one of the most dynamic places in the country right now and the opening of Hotel Born is another major milestone for the Mile High City,” said Hotel Born General Manager Von DeLuna. “We sit at the end of the Union Station platform, but in the heart of the city, making Hotel Born the hub of Denver’s incredible arts, culture, dining and entertainment scenes, as well as, of course, the outdoors.”
Developed by Continuum Partners, the co-master developers of the Union Station Transit Station, and designed by Denver-based Semple Brown in collaboration with Ellen Bruss of Ellen Bruss Design, Hotel Born has been carefully crafted in a refreshingly straight forward manner with an alpine modern design. Locally relevant, natural and handcrafted materials create a balance of wood, concrete and metal, which together capture Denver’s sophisticated locale while referencing the pine-filled mountains visible from the Hotel’s west-facing windows.
The exterior of the building reflects the brick masonry of LoDo's original historic warehouses while the floor-to-ceiling, randomly placed vertical windows give the hotel a striking presence distinct from any adjacent buildings. The lobby is contemporary but warm and inviting, with knotty pine paneling, custom millwork, and walnut herringbone floors combined with board-formed concrete. Hand-woven rugs, textured materials, warm lighting and unique one-off custom furniture pieces make it feel like a home.
Hotel Born’s 200 guest rooms – 40 of which are suites, including two premier suites with spectacular views, separate living rooms, six-top dining tables, wet bars and free-standing soaking tubs – feature dark brown and gold herringbone patterned carpet and a mix of traditional and modern furniture offset by fresh white walls. The most dramatic feature of the guest rooms are the knotty pine headboards which fold into a ceiling canopy. And because the connection between the indoors and outdoors is so integral to the Colorado experience, each room features large floor-to-ceiling windows.
“Continuum Partners has been at the center of Denver’s urban evolution for the last 20 years, including our role as co-master developer of the Union Station Transit Station,” said Mark Falcone, CEO and Founder of Continuum Partners. “We designed Hotel Born to reflect a spirit and aesthetic that we see as distinctly Denver and the opening of its doors today is a culminating moment not only for our team, but also for the Union Station neighborhood and the entire city."
One of the most unique aspects of Hotel Born is the art collection, which is composed of more than 700 original and limited edition works by Denver-area artists, that are meant to be integral to the overall design and attitude of Hotel Born. Adam Lerner, director of the nearby Museum of Contemporary Art, asked 32 of the most talented artists in the city, representing a diversity of styles, to produce bodies of work specifically for the hotel. Approximately 300 works are displayed in the hotel’s public spaces and corridors, while the rest grace the walls of each guest room. The collection conveys Hotel Born’s commitment to creating an elevated experience for guests as well as its authentic connection to the City of Denver. You can view a time lapse video of an art installation at Hotel Born here.
Hotel Born is home one of Denver’s most highly anticipated new restaurants, Citizen Rail, a Kimpton restaurant concept where classic wood-fired techniques meet contemporary dining. The wood-fired grill uses both native hard and fruitwoods and serves as the anchor of the exhibition kitchen while Executive Chef Christian Graves’ menu highlights the various house butchered cuts displayed in the adjacent dry aging room. A classic hand-crafted cocktail program rounds out the Citizen Rail experience and the wide selection of distinctive Colorado beer and thoughtfully curated wine enhances every aspect of the meal.
In addition, Tavernetta By Frasca, co-owned by Master Sommelier Bobby Stuckey and Chef Lachlan Mackinnon-Patterson of Boulder’s famed Frasca Food & Wine, is situated adjacent to Hotel Born and plans to open later this summer.
Guests will experience service that’s approachable, honest and intuitive and amenities unique to Hotel Born that are intended to encourage exploration and rejuvenation including SUV transportation within a two-mile radius of the hotel as well as access to Colorado Athletic Club and the Museum of Contemporary Art. Other amenities will be familiar to Kimpton loyalists such as an onsite fitness center; yoga mat in every room; in-room spa services; complimentary morning coffee and tea service as well as evening wine hour (featuring local roasters Ozo Coffee and a rotating tap of local craft beers, respectively); concierge services; valet parking; and a pet-friendly environment.
A grand staircase in the lobby leads to a second floor offering seven thoughtfully laid out, well-furnished and architecturally unique meeting and event spaces encompassing nearly 14,000 square feet. The diverse mix of grand ballrooms, meeting and boardrooms, pre-function space and private terraces - one with striking views of Denver's historic Union Station, the other overlooking the city's bustling Sixteenth Street – coupled with customized menus from the team at Citizen Rail – create an unmatched experience for meetings, weddings, cocktail receptions and parties of all sizes.
Located at 1600 Wewatta Street, Hotel Born is Kimpton’s second hotel in Denver, a sister property to the popular Hotel Monaco Denver located at 1717 Champa Street. Reservations can now be made at www.hotelborndenver.com with rates starting at $239 per night.
