Los Angeles, Calif., August 03, 2017
Bringing laidback California vibes, fresh, farm-driven cuisine and creative cocktails to the heart of Beachwood Canyon, Jane Q and Ever Bar open to the public today, offering visitors and Angelenos alike two new options to dine, drink and unwind. Located steps from the iconic intersection of Hollywood and Vine, the warm, welcoming spaces of Jane Q and Ever Bar are poised to become the social centers of the surrounding neighborhood.
A lively new restaurant offering a fresh take on California fare, Jane Q focuses on locally sourced, seasonal farmer’s market ingredients. The sunny, counter-style eatery will serve an all-day menu helmed by Executive Chef Bryan Podgorski in collaboration with Chef de Cuisine Jason T. Hall, featuring farm-fresh breakfasts, house-made pastries, unique shared plates, hearty oven-fired pizza and entrees, and indulgent desserts served alongside LAMILL specialty drip and espresso coffee prepared by world-class barista M’lissa Muckerman.
Speaking to the inspiration behind Jane Q’s menu, Hall says, “I have close relationships with local farmers who understand the thought and care that goes into creating each dish at Jane Q. We’re excited to work with them to serve fresh, interesting food that will put the restaurant on the map as a go-to destination for a truly wholesome and enjoyable dining experience.”
Jane Q’s breakfast menu includes an assortment of healthy grab-and-go options and made-to-order selections that change daily, such as Steel Cut Oats with khorasan wheatberry and citrus marmalade and Supergrain Granola with sheep’s milk yogurt and farmer’s market dried fruit. Other favorites include a Savannah B.E.L.T with pickled green tomato, pimento cheese, bacon candy and a fried egg and the Roasted Sweet Potato with spiced walnuts, yogurt and pickled Fresno chile. Pastries include the Coconut Bread with kaffir lime curd and the House-Baked Sticky Buns with Saigon cinnamon and cream cheese-vanilla frosting. After breakfast, an all-day menu is available until late. Diners can sample shareable starters such as Crispy Eggplant with tahini-yogurt, lemon and garlic or Market Carrots roasted, pickled and raw, with carrot top pesto and cultured cream. Other small plates include the Sierra Blanca Peaches with benton’s country ham, warm burrata and minus 8 vinegar and the Avocado Parfait with Greek yogurt, marinated cucumbers and housemade focaccia. A variety of hearth-fired mains include a Black Truffle Calzone with Sottocenere al Tartufo and Gnocchi alla Romana with shrimp sausage, fennel seed and chili. Chalkboard specials include a flavorful Cioppino with market seafood, saffron broth, plum tomato, fennel bulb and crispy focaccia as well as Game Hen with crispy kale, warm grain salad and roasted chicken jus. For dessert, guests can indulge in the Warm Berry Cobbler with cornmeal crumble and lime Chantilly as well as the Orange Creamsicle Bar with Madagascar vanilla cream and pistachio.
Complementing the culinary offering, Head Barista Muckerman, who brings her talents to Jane Q from Downtown L.A.’s G&B Coffee, will serve a range of specialty coffee, tea, espresso and cold brew drinks, sourced locally from LAMILL COFFEE. All coffee and tea and an expansive selection of freshly baked pastries are available as convenient take-away options or can be leisurely enjoyed in the relaxed café atmosphere. Additionally, Head Bartender Dan Rook has created a selection of signature cocktails including the Sicilian Café with Averna amaro, chilled espresso and Fever-Tree Mediterranean tonic and the Vodka, So... Duh with vodka, cold pressed kale juice, lemon cordial, soda and lemon.
With wood flooring, contemporary light fixtures and floor-to-ceiling glass windows, Jane Q captures Los Angeles’ modern take on European sidewalk dining. The focal point of the airy, white subway-tiled space is the open kitchen, which features a custom, imported Italian rotating-deck pizza oven. With seating of light blue and wood barstools along a white Carrera marble and zinc counter and a sea of wood tables and chairs throughout the dining room, diners can observe the care that goes into each dish, and enjoy the hustle and bustle of a busy café environment.
Upstairs from Jane Q is the effortlessly cool, refined yet casual Ever Bar. Blending eclectic and modern furnishings with laidback ease, Ever Bar transports guests to their home away from home. With an unparalleled direct view of the iconic Capitol Records building nearby, Rook’s creative cocktail menu pays homage to Los Angeles’ influential music scene, with the expansive list of libations divided into three distinct sections: The Basement Tapes (forgotten classics), Reissues/B Sides (reimagined takes on clichéd drinks) and Riffs (elevated, modern cocktails). Forgotten classics include the Monkey Gland with gin, orange juice, grenadine and absinthe; Reissues/B Sides features Rook’s update on a Sex on the Beach with vodka, concentrated peach-cranberry LAMILL tea, pineapple, honey vinegar, peach jam and egg whites and fresh takes on other mainstays such as a Rusty Nail and Cosmopolitan; and Riffs include out-of-the-box mashups such as the Bone Thighs and Harmony with St. George Shochu, duck confit bone broth pom-syrup and Grand Marnier, garnished with sage, and the Drink Your Vegetables with silver tequila, curacao, agave, black garlic, and gai lan broccoli.
Along with a 25-bottle wine list featuring highlights from small California producers, Ever Bar also serves a handful of beers on tap and by the bottle. A menu of light bites and bar snacks from Chef Hall is also available, serving up fare such as the Housemade Pretzel with pub cheese and Salmon Poke Tacos with caviar served in a wonton shell.
“The menu at Ever Bar is unusual and fun, yet also approachable – there’s a little something for everyone,” says Rook. “Whether you prefer the most off-the-beaten-path classics, gravitate towards what’s familiar, or just like to get weird. There’s a lot of culinary crossover with our house cocktails, and I’ve spent a lot of time with Chef in the kitchen figuring them out.”
Featuring 28-foot ceilings, Ever Bar’s 12-seat bar and 80-seat lounge area hosts DJs Monday through Wednesday nights, as well as a series of collaborative pop-up events, and includes a pool table and semi-private “library” off of the main room, providing a comfortable and inviting space for guests and locals to relax, grab a drink and stay for a while.
A range of food and beverage items from Jane Q and Ever Bar are also available on the adjacent Kimpton Everly Hotel’s in-room and poolside dining menus, and offered for catering and events.
