Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, is a magical city. After your flight lands, you'll feel like you've somehow stepped back in time a few centuries. Canal barges and narrowboats float peacefully along the 165 waterways that lace the city. Romantic and charming bridges are everywhere — more than 1,200 bridges adorn Amsterdam!

You'll adore the atmosphere in Amsterdam. It is a small city compared to places like London and New York, so you'll get to experience the true flavor of the place without getting lost in a huge crowd. Plus, most of the locals speak English, so you won't have to constantly flip through your Dutch phrasebook.

When should you visit Amsterdam? Summer is tourist season, so prices are generally higher then. Try planning your trip for spring or fall, when the weather is often mild and you'll have the opportunity to experience the local, laid-back vibe of the city. The best deals on hotels in the Netherlands usually happen in the winter, but temperatures hover between 30 and 40 degrees Fahrenheit, so bring your jacket!

How can you make the most of your time in Amsterdam? Use the following tips to plan a trip that will stay in your memory forever it from demolition, and today it stands as a striking reminder of the courage and fortitude that helped Anne Frank and others like her to endure.

Like art? You cannot miss the Van Gogh Museum, one of the most popular museums in the world. Every year, more than one and a half million people visit it to see the exquisite collection. Look at hundreds of works by Vincent Van Gogh, including paintings, drawings, and letters. You can also gaze upon art by some of the famous artist's contemporaries to get a well-rounded feel for the artistic culture of the time.

If you're a fan of beer, you'll appreciate the interactive Heineken Experience that takes place where the company brewed its famous drink for more than a century. The tour includes a few beers and some fascinating information about Heineken's story.

With more than 6,800 houses and buildings protected as monuments and dating from the 16th to the 20th century, Amsterdam boasts the largest historical inner city in Europe, Shannon McAllister, an Amsterdam travel expert, points out. Indeed, it would take several vacations to see all the historic and cultural riches of Amsterdam.

When it's time to get out and enjoy the great outdoors, Vondelpark, the largest park in the city, is the perfect place to take a walk or a jog. In summer, the park hosts concerts, and you can grab a bite at a lovely terrace restaurant. The park is more than a century old and boasts plane trees, chestnut trees, and birch trees. You can also see a 3-meter statue of the Dutch poet Vondel.

Beautiful location
By JHanc
What a jewel! Certainly did not know what to expect, but what a nice place to stay before our cruise. Very pleasant small shopping mall nearby with some nice restaurants, a store, and shops. This is [More] truly the seaport village for boats and small yachts. Just over the dunes is a fabulous beach that stretches down the coastline in both directions. If boarding for a cruise, this is great place to stay overnight. Transportation is limited. We took a train and bus from Rotterdam, but could have taken a taxi, too. The bus route goes right out to the end of the "strand" where the hotel is - no problem with suitcases. Interesting drive. [Less]
Good value for money and excellent location
By Ivo Leo
It was a long drive to the hotel, and i got a warm and homely welcome from the reception staff. I had a quick diner in the restaurant and ordere the monthly special. Service and foor quality was [More] perfect. I am every looking forward to my next stay at this hotel and will surely recommend it to others. [Less]

Good Experience for a Business Hotel
By EmanMD
Good Experience for a Business Hotel. Location is efficient for being near the train station and that was very important to be at work on time everyday. For leisure, it might not be the best choice [More] for nothing other than the location. if you want to see Amsterdam, maybe you want to try a closer hotel to the center. The metro trip for the near station to the central station is 20 minutes. The walk to the station from the hotel is 10 to 15 minutes according to the person's walking speed. [Less]
Good, clean fun in a hotel
By andreww4
Typical Holiday Inn in that it is not luxurious but is definitely functional, clean, has the facilities you always need and the staff are friendly and helpful. I spent a working week here and enjoyed [More] it. Although the bar does not have a huge selection of beers, those they do are good and the staff are helpful and will bring the drinks to your table/wherever you are sitting. The Executive Room I had was reasonably spacious, but had a couple of quirks - the toilet was by the entrance, quite separate form the bathroom and there was not a "working desk" but a round table with a floor level power socket (there was WiFi in the room/hotel so that was not a problem). The result is that you could have a meeting in the room quite happily (the bed quite is separate/behind a large screen) if you so desired. All in all, a good business hotel (we ran a small conference using 7 or 8 of the conf rooms) with good food, service, but 20/30 minutes from central Amsterdam (although there are plenty of shops and restaurants within 10 minute walk), as is the Arena station). great staff
By traveler virginia
We enjoyed our stay. The hotel manager made our stay exceptional. Gave us an upgrade room. Very helpful with directions to city and transportation. Breakfast was also very good. Only problem I had is [More] that I did not get the bonus points added to my account being I am a platinum member or IHG. Would definitely stay there again. [Less]

Consistent Good Service and Value for Money
By Bimly
Staying here the staff cannot do anything more to make you feel welcome. I have seen some "interesting" requests which they meet with professionalism and courtesy despite the requests being strange [More] and outside of something a 3 star hotel would cater for I wish some guests would be more realistic and polite in their requests too and they would in turn see how good the staff are here [Less]
