Stretching between Place de la Concorde and the Louvre Museum, the gravelled alleyways of the gardens, named after the tile factories that stood here in the Middle Ages, have been chic promenades ever since. Designed by Charles Garnier in 1862 under the orders of Napoléon III, the Opera Garnier is one of Paris' most emblematic and luxurious monuments.
