Worst Holiday Inn I've Ever Stayed At

I am a Reward Member and have been for several years. Anytime we travel, we always book at a Holiday Inn Express and have always had a great experience. After traveling for 10.5 hours through torrential rain with 4 adults and a 5 month old baby, we arrived at this hotel around 10:00 pm exhausted and ready to settle in for the night. We had booked 2 rooms about 2 weeks prior to arrival. We went to check in and were told that unfortunately they had overbooked and they were not going to be able to accomodate us with 2 rooms. When I began to ask questions, the girl became rude and said "there is no option here and the manager has already left for the night." We were forced to stay in one room together (which was uncomfortable as the other couple has a small baby and the mother nurses). We were told that we could come in the next morrning and talk to the manager to see about getting our original rooms back. We went to our room, fell into an exhausted sleep in our clothes (no one felt comfortable wearing their pajamas). We also noticed that there was hair in our bathtub, so no one took a shower. We went to the desk the next day, but were told that they did not have availability and that we would have to stay in the room we were in. We were stunned. How is it our fault that THEY overbooked? We sucked it up, as we were given no other options., The next night when we got in, our room was untouched. We called the desk and were told that our room would not be cleaned during our stay. ????. We requested clean towels, which they brought. We also noticed piles of trash, take out bags, food and dirty towels around the garbage cans in the hallways on each floor. Not sure what that was about, but needless to say, it was a concern about how poorly the hotel was being run. We also noticed the grounds were very unkept, high grass and weeds in the flower beds. Again, we are accustomed to very clean and pristine hotels under the Holiday Inn Express name. The night before we left, we went down to the kitchen area where they serve breakfast to get some cups of ice (we went out for breakfast each day so we had not been in this room before). Our feet literally stuck to the tile from syrup and spilled drinks. Again, concerned. We checked out Monday, July 8th and hope we never have to stay there again. We continue to be amazed that no one cared that we were unable to be accomodated, that we had a baby in our group, or even tried to fix the problem they created. I'm sure other people have had a good experience here without problems, but we were not one of them. Poor management, poor staff quality and the cleanliness left alot to be desired. Oh and the icing on the cake? When I asked if we would be given a credit due to only getting one room, they said we would not because there was no difference in the price. How is 1 room as expensive as 2? Yeah, I'm done.

Not a great experience

On our first day I set up a shuttle pick up to go to Aquatica. The receipt that the representative gave me listed the times that the shuttle would be available to be picked up at Aquatica and return to the hotel. On the receipt it shows that the last shuttle was 7:00pm. It was a total of 6 of us 2 adults and 4 children. We arrived at the pick up location at 6:30pm to wait for the shuttle, 7pm came no shuttle, 7:10pm came, still no shuttle, 7:20pm came and still nothing. I contacted the hotel and explained the situation. The man at the front desk stated that the last shuttle was at 6pm, and I explained to him that the receipt that I had did not state that. This guy had the nerves to say that well I don't know what to say to you but the last shuttle was at 6pm...I said so I am stranded with my 4 kids here because of this? and he said well I don't know what to say. I asked to speak to a manager and he said there was no manager to assist. At this point I am furious, I have 4 kids who are tired and hungry it is now past 730pm and I am not from FL and do not know what to do. I said this is not my fault and I need someone to help me! He knew I was upset and started to get frustrated and started to kinda yell and say call a taxi, I said I am not paying for a taxi, this is not my fault, so he said just call a taxi and let them know that I will pay for it. I contacted a taxi and it would be about an hr wait....now im super furious! Then I saw a taxi waiting outside and asked if they were taken and said no, I explained the situation, called the taxi company back to cancel and then they drove us to the hotel. I went to the front desk rep and said who I was and that he was the one I spoke to over the phone in regards to the taxi. He asked me how much is it and I said I have no idea but that the taxi driver is waiting outside to get paid, so the front desk rep goes outside and asks him, the driver tells him $20, the front desk rep starts yelling, "are you serious, come on man, you are kidding me, for a drive that close?" and the taxi driver said yes. The front desk rep storms inside and gets a $20 to pay him and then tells me, why did you take one of those taxis? you should never take one of those, they are a rip off. Let me say that I was extremely upset at this point, for the fact that the taxi driver has no part in what happened between the hotel and me, for the driver to get shouted at, I felt soooooo bad to put him in that position, he should of never been treated that way by the hotel staff. I just could not believe that just happened in front of me and my kids. I heard the front desk rep ask for a receipt from the driver and the driver gave him one and then I walked away and went to our room. I was in shock that this all just occurred. My other experience is that on the last 2 days the hotel ran out of paper plates, utensils, bacon and other things that I cannot remember for breakfast. This hotel is in the middle of the busiest attractions and seemed fully booked. I feel that the hotel should have been more prepared to have enough of supplies for that capacity. I had to take glass plates back to the room and the staff at breakfast was giving me looks and then asks if I could return the plates back when I was done...in my mind im like no, its not my fault I have to take these plates. There was no space for my big family to eat in the area so that's why I had to take our breakfast back to the room. Overall since I was out everyday this is my overall experience at the hotel. Not so great.
