Fort Belvoir is set just off Historic Route US 1 (Richmond Highway) near Old Town Alexandria and Mount Vernon. Business and military travelers benefit from having I 95 less than 6 miles away allowing easy access to Alexandria and Washington DC to the north, as well as Historic Occoquan, Woodbridge, and Dale City to the south.
Car rentals or POVs are encouraged, but guests can get around via the Metro Bus and Rail Service. The Metro Bus REX (Richmond Express) services Fort Belvoir and connects with the Metro Rail Yellow Line at Huntington, Eisenhower, and King Street Stations as well as the Blue Line at King Street Station.

Traveling north or south on I-95 take exit 166A (Fort Belvoir/Newington) and stay on VA 7100 (Fairfax County Parkway) going east, until it ends at US 1 (Richmond Highway). At the traffic light make a left (north) onto US 1 (Richmond Highway). Stay to the right and at the first traffic light turn right (east) onto Pohick Road. Follow road to Tully Gate. It is required that anyone entering Fort Belvoir clear the security check point, please make sure to have proper identification, registration and/or rental car contract available. Stay on Pohick Road; this will become 12th Street, through the first and second lights (Theote Road and Gunston Road). Turn right onto Belvoir Road at the third traffic light (a chapel is on the left corner). Stay on Belvoir Road through the first traffic light (16th Street).Turn left onto 18th Street. 18th Street will "Y", stay to the right (DO NOT go down the hill). IHG Army Hotels - Fort Belvoir: Knadle Hall, building 470, at 9775 Gaillard Rd is around the bend on the left hand side and additional parking is located in the lot on the right hand side.

Don't go home without visiting the Jackson Miles Abbott Wetland Refuge with a one-mile asphalt trail and an observation deck overlooking the wetland area. It also offers fishing (including handicap accessible fishing piers) in Mulligan Pond. A Virginia state fishing license is required. The refuge is open to the public from dawn to dusk, seven days a week. Natural Bridge is highly recommended
