Sitting on the shores of Lake Erie in upstate New York, Buffalo is the second-largest city in the state. If you're planning a visit to this exciting city, you'll find plenty of things to see and do during your stay.
Canalside was once the western end of the Erie Canal. However, today this historic district is a rich site that's full of activity no matter what time of year it is. In the summer, there are free events nearly every day, including concerts and water sports. In the winter, you can try your hand at ice skating and curling. You'll also find excellent dining and shopping opportunities all year.
If you love art, make sure you take some time to visit the Albright-Knox Art Gallery. Known for its extensive collection of modern and contemporary art, the museum has pieces that span the centuries. During your visit, you can view artwork by Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollock, Andy Warhol and several other artists.
During your stay in Buffalo, you'll find polished and modern luxury hotels in the heart of all the action. While there are some affordable and mid-range hotels in the downtown area, your best bet for finding these options is to head toward the outskirts of the city.
If you're planning on driving to Buffalo, Interstate 90 is just east of the city, and Interstate 190 heads directly into the heart of Buffalo. If you'd rather fly to the area, the Buffalo Niagara International Airport is situated about 10 miles northeast of the city.
