If you are feeling energetic, climb to the top of its landmark 75-metre bell tower for an amazing view. A few steps away, you can peek inside famous Lello's bookshop, a fabulous old store with a lavish art nouveau interior which is said to have been the inspiration for Hogwarts library in the Harry Potter books.

Head down to the Ribeira district and you can enjoy an authentic Portuguese lunch at one of the many eateries by the River Douro. After savouring some local specialities, head over the bridge into the southern district of Vila Nova da Gaia and take a tour through one of the many port wine cellars that fill the streets near the river. You can learn everything about the making of one of the world’s most famous wines, and also sample a glass or two. Cap the day off with a scenic river cruise.

Rejuvenate yourself after a busy day sightseeing by dining in style at the hotel's exclusive Restaurant. Our specially designed menu can take you on a culinary tour of Portuguese classics, with each dish given our own modern twist. After dinner it may be time to head out and experience Porto’s vibrant nightlife. You could return to the lively Ribeira district, or explore the side streets near the hotel, where you'll find plenty of traditional bars alongside modern nightclubs.

  • Porto The City That Gave Portugal Its Name

    Located along the Douro river estuary in northern Portugal, Porto is one of the oldest European cities, and was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1996. Its settlement dates back many centuries, when it was an outpost of the Roman Empire. Its Latin name, Portus Cale, has been referred to as the origin for the name Portugal, based on transliteration and oral evolution from Latin. In Portuguese the name of the city is spelled with a definite article as o Porto in English the port. Consequently, its English name evolved from a misinterpretation of the oral pronunciation and referred to as Oporto in modern literature and by many speakers.

    Visitors who travel to Porto by rail are rewarded with murals of 20,000 hand-painted tiles depicting naval battles and other historic scenes. Dozens of visitors, with no apparent plans to purchase train tickets, stared at the walls and ceiling in awe, capturing photos and selfies for friends back home. What to Pack?
Porto is a city in which the four seasons are quite clearly defined. When travelling to Porto during summer or spring, you will definitely need to pack some light clothes as the weather can be quite warm, but do not forget to bring a sweater as nights here are always a bit chilly. If you come during autumn, you’ll notice right away that things can get a bit rainy and windy around here so be sure to be prepared. Comparing to autumn, winter in Porto is much colder and dry than rainy and humid, as we say here it’s a kind of cold that gets into your bones so instead of an umbrella you should bring a big coat, scarf and a beanie hat. Whatever the weather might be during your visit to Porto, we are more than sure that you’ll be blown away by Porto and everything it has to offer.
