To learn some interesting history, take a trip to the King Manor Museum. The manor was once home to Rufus King, who was a signer of the Constitution, ambassador to Great Britain after the American Revolution and senator from New York. During your tour of the manor, you'll see historical furniture and learn more about the King family.
While Jamaica is a major urban area, you can still enjoy some time outside when you visit Detective Keith L. Williams Park. In the summer, the outdoor pool and wading area are the perfect places to cool off. The park also offers a running track, tennis courts, handball courts and a playground. Even if the weather isn't ideal, the park has a recreation center that offers a variety of year-round programs.
Jamaica has several hotel options for your stay. Most of the hotels are conveniently close to the train station and subway station, so you can easily take these lines to get anywhere else in the city. Nearly all the hotels in the area also offer modern amenities, such as free wireless internet access and complimentary breakfast.
If you're interested in driving to Jamaica, Interstate 678 runs north and south through the neighborhood. If you'd rather fly there, John F. Kennedy International Airport is 4 miles south of Jamaica.
