With sun, surf and sand, people visit Newport Beach for a taste of the good life. This Orange County city is a popular home for America's rich and famous, but you needn't have their budgets to enjoy a getaway in this coastal retreat.
The beaches are Newport Beach's greatest draw-card. Hit the surf at Huntington Beach or The Wedge, at the edge of the Balboa Peninsula, or enjoy calmer waters at Corona Del Mar or the iconic Laguna Beach. But there's more to explore away from the shore. Orange County Museum of Art has a permanent collection of contemporary works and special exhibitions. Meet the animals native to the Pacific Coast at the Muth Wetlands Interpretive Center. Learn about the area's maritime heritage at the Newport Harbor Nautical Museum.
Newport Beach is the ideal place to stay if you've got cash to spare. Its beachfront resorts and five-star hotels make the perfect home away from home if you love being pampered. Frugal travelers aren't forgotten though. Boutique cottages and small inns have a real charm. The local camping ground and RV Park let you enjoy staying on the shore on a budget.
John Wayne Airport sits on the border of Newport Beach, Santa Ana and Irvine. Alternatively, you could arrive at Los Angeles International or Long Beach Airport, then travel south on the I-405 Freeway, then the 73 Freeway. Metrolink and Amtrak trains travel to nearby Irvine and Santa Ana. You could catch an OCTA bus into the city, but cabs are also affordable.
