Auburn University was established in 1856 as the East Alabama Male College, 20 years after the city of Auburn's founding. In 1872, under the Morrill Act, the school became the first land-grant college in the South and was renamed the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Alabama. In 1899 the name was changed, to the Alabama Polytechnic Institute. Finally, in 1960 the name was changed to Auburn University, a title more reflecting the location, and expressing the varied varied academic programs.

Tuskegee University is a private institution that was founded in 1881. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 2,394, its setting is rural, and the campus size is 5,000 acres. It utilizes a semester-based academic calendar. Tuskegee University's ranking in the 2021 edition of Best Colleges is Regional Universities South, #20. Its tuition and fees are $22,679.

Chewacla State Park is located in east-central Auburn, Lee County, four miles west of the Auburn University campus. The park's 696 acres include 26-acre Lake Chewacla, a swimming area, hiking trails along two creeks, picnic areas with tables, grills, and shelters, playgrounds, and facilities for both tent and vehicle camping. The park has been inducted into the TripAdvisor Hall of Fame for winning its Certificate of Excellence five years in a row.

Grand National, by all reports, was the single greatest site for a golf complex Robert Trent Jones, Sr. had ever seen. Built on 600-acre Lake Saugahatchee, 32 of the 54 holes drape along its filigreed shores. Both the Links course and the Lake course were in the top 10 of Golf Digest's list of "America's Top 50 Affordable Courses" and all three courses at Grand National are listed among the nation's 40 Super Value courses by Golf Digest's "Places to Play".

The Jay and Susie Gogue Performing Arts Center at Auburn University, a new 85,000-square-foot venue that provides a space for touring Broadway productions; opera, dance, orchestra and symphony performances; and student and faculty music and theater performances. There will be seating for 1,200 guests in the main multipurpose venue, a box office, a catering kitchen, wardrobe and dressing rooms and office spaces. A second small performance venue will be connected to an outdoor amphitheater.

Southern Union State Community College was formed on August 12, 1993, when the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees effectively merged Southern Union State Junior College and Opelika State Technical College. Each partner brought to the merger a history rich in tradition of service to students.

Jordan–Hare Stadium is the playing venue for the Auburn University Tigers football team located on campus in Auburn, Alabama. The stadium is named for Ralph "Shug" Jordan, who owns the most wins in school history, and Cliff Hare, a member of Auburn's first football team as well as Dean of the Auburn University School of Chemistry and President of the Southern Conference.
