Located at the base of the Rocky Mountains, Boulder is home to the 11th largest population in the state of Colorado. Its prime location in the mountains makes it a great place to plan a vacation to see its incredible natural beauty and to do things with the family.
Feel like taking a hike in the mountains? The nearby Flatirons are a perfect place to see what Boulder and the Rockies have to offer. The Flatirons are so called because of their flat shape as they rise up out of the earth. Take the 2-mile Flatiron Loop Trail if you need to take it easy in the higher elevation, or continue to the 3-mile Royal Arch Trail that ends at a natural rock arch. It also gives incredible views of Boulder and the surrounding area. Alternatively, hike to Woods Quarry to see the historic sandstone quarry and catch your breath on the stone benches.
Stay in the middle of Boulder at your choice of family-friendly hotels that offer everyone a comfortable stay and a base of operations for exploring the town. Boulder was once home to a large counterculture movement in the 1970s, and much of that is still present in the city today in terms of a vibrant arts community.
Getting into Boulder is easy from Denver International Airport. A bus runs hourly between the airport and Boulder with trips taking about 70 minutes each way. Alternatively, drive into town from US Highway 36 and enjoy the incredible scenery along the way!
