- Description
-
Berkeley is on San Francisco's East Shore in northern California and is home to about 120,000 residents. It sits within Alameda County and is named after the 18th-century philosopher George Berkeley. The city houses the oldest University of California campus as well as the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. The city is also home to the Graduate Theological Union, a massive religious studies institution. Berkeley sits on the opposite side of the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco, so it shares a similar Mediterranean climate characterized by wet winters and dry summers.
When visiting Berkeley, make sure to visit the University of California, Berkeley campus to view its unbelievable architecture and beautiful grounds. Golden Gate Fields is a top destination for fine dining and horse racing, while Tilden Regional Park has 2,000 acres of land and a variety of recreational activities. If the weather is pleasant, head to the Berkeley Marina to go sailing or explore its trails. Another top attraction is the Lawrence Hall of Science, a museum with hands-on exhibits and a planetarium.
It's easy to find an IHG hotel property within Berkeley or the neighboring city of San Francisco. Depending on where you stay, the hotel might offer amenities such as complimentary shuttle service, free daily breakfast or an indoor swimming pool. You can also opt for a hotel near campus.
The closest airport is Oakland International Airport, located 15 miles south. Public transportation to surrounding cities is available via BART trains, while bus lines offer service throughout the city.
