Premium/Exclusive Resort? Rather an expensive adventure park in a great location!,,,

From the moment we arrived at Hayman, till the time we left, everything we experienced told us that we had made a huge mistake in choosing Hayman as our destination for a birthday celebration. The service, food, response to our requests - everything was well below par.
ARRIVAL - the meet and greet lacked detail - we were walked to our room, via Pacific (and told this was the bf place), door opened, key left on the bar area and that was it. It was like you are on your own from here on. As part of our package, we had a bottle of champagne on arrival. But this was nowhere to be found in the room. Three hours after checking in, I called and was told oh sorry! Will let IRD know. Soon after a bottle of Bimbadgen sparking was placed in our room. Whatever happened to the champagne?
ROOM - the ironing board did not have a cover - just the metal to iron our clothes on. No heating in the room, so asked for a couple of blankets - these were brought and thrown, whilst we were out, on the couch along with some hard pillows. The lie lows in the balcony had mouldy covers - replaced after we requested a change. Bathroom amenities not replenished, unless requested. Tea bags not replenished unless requested.
F&B - our package included a three course dinner each night. Each restaurant had their own understanding of what is included in the dinner. Bam Bam told us we could choose on dish from each course on the menu + one side. Amici said we can order whatever and as many we want, except a couple of high priced dishes. Pacific, again was one dish from each section. The food at Bam Bam had no authenticity - my wife’s yellow curry was coconut milk with turmeric. The meal took 2 hours, with a 45 minute wait between entree and mains. When asked why it was taking this long, the staff said ,it’s coming it’s coming! It was as if they didn’t care at all. At Pacific, gestured to the manger to come to our table, but all we got was a finger meaning one minute, as he was busy on his iPad. And then he never made it to the table. Amici was better than the other two restaurants - both in terms of quality of food and service, but nothing that would say we were at a Premium, exclusive resort. Had dinner at Bar 50 on our last night, and were served a burnt pizza.
OUR REQUESTS - requested for hard pillows, blankets, change of lie low covers in the morning around 9am - never got them till 4pm so requested again and Finally got them in the evening.
Requested to be shown the Residences, to be advised by the lady at Front Desk that someone from Concierge will call and organise the visit. Never got a call and never saw the Residences.
This trip was to celebrate my wife’s birthday - from the time of making the booking and in between at every communication with Hayman rep, I was asked “are you celebrating anything whilst staying with us”. However, during our 5 night stay, there was no acknowledgement of my wife’s birthday. I was told there will be a special amenity in the room on her birthday as well as something special at diner in Amici, but sadly nothing. I did not even organise a cake thinking the hotel would, but I was so wrong.
FEEDBACK TO MANAGEMENT - recd a welcome email from Ben Matters, FOM, on the morning after our arrival. So responded to him advising of the champagne issue, poor service at Bam Bam, pillow issue - but never heard back from him, till the day before our departure. Reason for him not responding or contacting - sorry due there being a Sunday in between he has been extremely busy. Sent a message to Resort Manager, Adrian Levy, for a discussion, but never heard from him. Finally met with Ben - he apologised ( I could see no genuineness in his apology) and said he will investigate, this is not how it should be, etc etc. Also said he would have to check what they advertise - champagne or sparkling wine on arrival ? This from a FOM who, in his words, has been at the resort for a very long time. And he would also check with the concerned department. Ben says he would see me at check out the next day and would like to make up for all the issues we had to encounter. Later in the day Ben sends an apology note along with a bottle of champagne and a charcuterie platter. He obviously did not check our folio, otherwise he would have known that my wife is a vegetarian and I a vegan pescetarian. What a waste of an opportunity to wow a dissatisfied guest and of food too. Even on our transfer back to Hamilton island, there was no food fro me - all they had was chicken sandwiches and sone dry veg sushi. I cannot understand d why they ask for dietary requirements, but then do nothing about them.
At check out Ben was nowhere to be seen. I have communicated with him since our departure and he has advised that he has shared my feedback and all pictures with the leadership - what that means only he knows.
Hayman portrays itself as leading, exclusive and premium resort, and charges accordingly too - it cost us thousands for the 5 day stay. From our experience, and many others we spoke to, it is not even close to the Hayman of before. They do false/misleading advertisement. Our money would have gone a long way, inclusive of flights, had we gone to a South East Asian destination, like Bali or Hua Hin.
I don’t mind paying top money for quality product, but at Hayman this is not possible. I will not keep quiet till I am compensated accordingly for the disastrous experience my wife and I had at Hayman.

New level and standard in luxury and hospital

Just wow !!!

I have stayed at many leading hotels around the world in scenic locations, including numerous IHG properties. However, my recent experience has set a new level of standards. My stay at the residence section cliffside villas was nothing short of extraordinary. We were upgraded to these stunning villas, which, even in the low season, are usually well beyond my budget. The villa itself was truly amazing—beautifully built with modern architecture, fully automated, and offering breathtaking views.

My rating is based on the entire facility, quality of food, staff, service, and location. From the moment we arrived, we were treated with utmost respect and care by all levels of staff. The hotel grounds are gorgeous, with grand gardens and spectacular water features that enhance the serene atmosphere. The food quality was excellent, catering to a variety of tastes with a range of delicious options.

The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making sure that nothing was ever an issue. Their dedication to guest satisfaction was evident in every interaction, from the warm welcome at check-in to the attentive service throughout our stay. The location itself is perfect, offering both tranquility and easy access to local attractions.

In summary, this hotel provides an unparalleled experience. Whether you're staying in the cliffside villas or other accommodations, you can expect top-notch service, luxurious surroundings, and a truly memorable stay. This place has certainly raised the bar for all my future travels.

Amazing!

It's clear IHG are committed to ensuring Hayman Island resort is truly a 5 star resort. The grounds are spectacular and our room (beachfront pavilion) was just perfect - luxurious, private and just metres from the ocean. The main resort and all resort facilities are also really well maintained, with nothing looking tired or rundown. The food was a standout - we tried all restaurants and every meal was superb and a good quantity. Favourites were the tempura eggplant at Bam Bam, the beer battered fish and chips at Aqua, the beef ragu parpadelle at Amici, and the creme brulee at Pacific. Staff at the resort are plentiful, professional and friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed the free fish feeding off the jetty, the day spa, the walks, and over-eating. Unfortunately we thought it would be too cold to swim so didn't bring swimwear however the weather was perfect even in June. The plunge pool was also heated as is the infinity pool beside Bam Bam restaurant. A fantastic resort that's perfect for doing as little or as much as you want and we can't wait to return.

Definitely a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️resort.

Our stay on Hayman was absolutely, fantastic celebrating our special wedding day.
The weather was perfect for us, with the sun shining all morning for our lovely dream beach wedding.
Then enjoying the rest of our stay on our honeymoon, relaxing on Hayman, enjoying the beach, or relaxing by one of the two amazing huge pools drinking cocktails and eating yummy snacks. One of the pools even has a spectacular infinity pool with a gorgeous view overlooking the ocean.

When booking our stay we decided to indulge ourselves with a pool access room, the room was clean and spacious, with a romantic bedroom, huge stone bathtub with luxurious shower facilities. Our room also had breathtaking views overlooking the pool, this island is an absolute paradise.

Our mornings included full hot and cold buffet breakfasts and our nights included gourmet three course dinners at one of all three restaurants, staff were all very friendly and welcoming with Atama being a standout with his great customer services.

Our events coordinator Rebecca was excellent and went above and beyond to make our special day a memorable one that we will treasure forever.
Rebecca was extremely professional, attentive, caring and made our wedding day on Coconut beach very special.
Rebecca was amazing and was there for us from day one, until the end of our stay, much appreciated and thank you so much Rebecca.

The housekeeping staff were friendly and impressed us on their prompt cleanliness of our room which was done thoroughly each day.

The restaurants were all outstanding with incredible flavours incorporated into each and every dish. You can really tell there are chefs involved that care about the flavours they provide in all the dishes.

Our wedding night under the stars was a stand out dinner for us, over looking the beach starting off with a sunset while dining in our own romantic cabana. Our chef Luke made us feel extremely special, explaining each of all our five course dishes to us personally which were all served with paired wine.
Chef Luke’s passion for cooking shows with his impressive taste and flavors throughout all our dishes, superb fine dining experience, from the oysters with caviar, delicious scallops, grilled lobster, perfectly cooked wagyu beef and our lemon meringue tart with personalized Mr and Mrs decorated with chocolate on our plates were exquisite from the pastry chef as well.
Thank you to chef Luke and exceptional staff that made our wedding night very special.

Our last minute helicopter ride, that Rebecca managed to arrange for us was an amazing way to head back to Hamilton island, this was pretty cool and just topped off our journey back home.

We will definitely be back, thank you so much once again to all the amazing IHG team working together on Hayman Island to make our stay extremely special and memorable😊

Greed on speed

We spent 4 nights at the $2600 per night beach pool villas. We didn’t go there to save money but we expect value for money. The room was fantastic and well appointed. It included a concierge service to cater for your every need. Mind you at $2600 per night you might expect the minibar to be included….umm no.
Don’t try using the concierge app unless you wish to experience nostalgia as if you’re on a dial up modem. You can text concierge staff but if they’re busy then don’t expect a quick response even to order room service. You can call in room dining but usually it’s engaged or it rings out.
Many of the hospitality staff are young, super friendly, yet it would seem completely untrained, and at times simply clueless.
Activity prices are an absolute eye gouging rip off . We were told we would have to pay $1500 for an 8 minute boat ride, drop off and pick up to and from Blue Pearl Bay. Astonishing! That’s $1500 for an 8 minute water taxi ride. We told them our thoughts and cancelled the whole experience. No regret or response whatsoever on their behalf.
Ocean Dynamics are also pricey. They are at least very well run with awesome staff. Not surprisingly it’s not run by IHG. It’s privately owned by Carolyn and they do a fine job.
The restaurants have decent food but the service is just appalling. It’s certainly not 5 star. We had a $180 lobster served at Bam Bam on a regular sized plate with the meal hanging over the sides and dripping everywhere. No accompanying utensils. We had to shove our entrees down our mouthes while the well meaning but clueless (untrained) waitress stood there holding the lobster. Then we helped her clear the table for the main dish. After that our dishes were eventually cleared and we were left sitting at a filthy table until we could find service to order a dessert. When we ordered I suggested they might clean the table before the dessert arrived.
We complained to the manager about the whole night and he discounted the meal by 20%. Frankly why should we pay so much for a 2/3 eaten lobster with no utensils and such appalling service. The whole experience was a joke and typical of the level of service throughout the resort.
Don’t try ordering a coffee for breakfast and expecting to have it with your meal, it won’t happen. At Pacific we ordered a margarita twice during dinner and had to ask why it was taking so long. The waitress was so embarrassed and even told us she was so sorry, but the bar lady thought it was more important to restock her fridge than make the drinks. We ended up taking the second drink back to the villa.
You effectively get told what time to eat and are encouraged to book early. Our meals were booked for us at 545pm each night as if we were young children. Besides, we are on holiday. We don’t want to have to plan everything ahead with military precision.
Eventually we told concierge that we would eat when we wanted to eat, not when it suited them. Mind you don’t try and start your meal at 8pm or later. The place clears out and they can’t wait to get rid of you so they can go home.
On our final night we simply walked in without a booking to the Pacific and it was no problem. We weren’t going to risk Bam Bam again, and Amici is simply underwhelming unless you want pizza.
Talking to some regular guests who we met (been coming to Hayman for 10 years) they said it was the worst they had seen it and had words with the GM on this stay.
Basically you feel that you are a prisoner to the location. We have your money now so just be grateful for where you are, and we will drain you of what we can through price gouging wherever possible. It’s literally greed on speed.
There is even a $10 ‘tray’ charge for room service plus an encouragement to tip. We would have tipped if the service demanded it and the pricing wasn’t so ridiculous.
It may be worth noting that I own two restaurants in Sydney. I only say so in the context that I rarely write a negative review at all, and that I may be considered somewhat qualified as to my comments about service levels.

A glorified retirement village

By

يناير ٠٧, ٢٠٢٤

I would usually not write a bad review but seeming as we paid extortionate prices I feel compelled to warn anyone who is thinking of staying here under the guise of this being a luxury holiday.

I stayed for my honeymoon during the new years period and was incredibly disappointed with my stay and seriously underwhelmed. This hotel is definitely not deserving of the 5 star rating that it boasts about.

The rooms are dated and old despite the hotel supposedly having a renovation recently. Maybe we were given a dud room despite the fact we were on our honeymoon? They don't care. The handle of our bathroom door was broken and missing and our bathtub was covered in black marks and stains and the room smelt like mould.

There was a power outage atleast twice during our stay and the internet connection was consistently bad. We had to call IT to our room twice just to be able to watch tv, the second time no one showed up so we just sat in our room staring at the walls the entire evening. When I called to complain reception just said tough luck. Reaching room service was a hassle on its own you would have to call multiple times before getting through to someone so we just gave up.

Not only is the service incredibly slow, the staff are indifferent and inexperienced. Both pool bars have limited opening hours 11.30-4pm. So if you're looking for sunset drinks ambience by the beach absolutely forget it lol it's a retirement village. Pool side service is shocking, I had to get up to chase down waiters every time I wanted to order food.
It's like they hibernated behind the bar.

There's really no ambience or lively-ness to the resort. It quiet literally felt like a ghost town in what's supposed to be the busiest period of the year? I'm sure if you're over 70 you would love the slow pace but abit of music wouldn't really hurt anyone.

Tours and activities will cost you thousands of dollars, we paid $700 for a trip to Whitehaven whilst hotels on Hamilton island arranges it for $40. A short 5 minute speed boat to a neighbouring island cost $200 for two people.

The selection and quality of food is quite poor, for extortionate prices. There are only three restaurants so if you’re staying here more than 3 days you would grow insanely bored of the options. You’re stuck being price gauged just to have a meal. We were charged $20 for extra toppings on a $30 pizza lol Please stop trying to extort us ? It’s driving guests away.

Everyone boasts about the location but there is literally nothing around for you to do ? I went insane of boredom. They have one retail store that takes full advantage of the fact that we are on a secluded island and cannot purchase products elsewhere so they hike the prices up.

If you’re looking to stay around white sundays or the Great Barrier Reef I would advise staying at the beach Club Hotel in Hamilton island, for similar prices you really do get a luxury holiday with great ambience. There’s local restaurants around and supermarkets that don’t price gauge you. And not to mention the abundance of activities to do. This is what you would call a REAL holiday.

Intercontinental please do better if your going to charge such extortionate prices.

Highly Disappointing and Shockingly Poor Overall Service and Food Quality

By

نوفمبر ٢١, ٢٠٢٣

My wife and I recently stayed at the Intercontinental Hayman Resort for our Honeymoon and Babymoon and, regrettably, I can't help but express my deep disappointment with the experience.

Given the resort's purported five-star status, I had expected an exceptional level of service and amenities, but sadly, this was FAR from the reality. Here are the numerous issues we encountered during our stay:

1. Lack of Empathy for Expectant Mother:
Part of our room package is a personal concierge to attend to us and even before our trip, she already displayed no empathy for our situation. We paid for roundtrip transfers from the pier to the island and we were told last minute that the ferry will arrive at 4pm, when our flight lands at 9am. She callously suggested that we wait at the pier for a staggering 7 hours, showing no concern for my heavily pregnant wife; otherwise, we should rent a private helicopter to take us to the island ON TOP OF the roundtrip ferry fees we have already paid for. She coldly said those were the only options-- wait 7 hours or pay an additional $900 for a 15-minute helicopter ride. I should mention that prior to booking i was advised by the booking operator that transfers were easy and the same whether from Prosperpine or Hamilton, so of course i chose the easiest direct flight from Melbourne to Proserpine. Big mistake.

2. Unresolved Transfer Refund:
We paid for a two-way transfer to Hayman Island but only used one-way because we were forced to book a helicopter. We inquired about a refund for the unused transfer and were told that someone would get back to us. Despite multiple follow-ups during our stay and upon checkout, we never received a response or refund. They kept the one-way fee of our transfer.

3. Unfulfilled Promises:
Upon check-in, we already raised our concerns and were promised a fruit platter, complete with a discussion about delivery time the next day. However, the fruit platter was never delivered during our stay even after a follow up the next day.

4. Slow Pool Service:
The service at both pool areas was exceptionally slow, making it challenging to enjoy our time by the pool. We noticed that most of the waiters were constantly lost too, not knowing where to deliver the orders. Very disorganized and untrained.

5. Inadequate Turndown Service:
The turndown service was consistently subpar. It appeared as if inexperienced individuals had prepared it--they should have left the room as it is if they were only going to make a mess out of our bed. We have photographic evidence to substantiate this claim.

6. Misleading Indulgence Package:
We opted for the "indulgence package," which included a daily 3-course set menu for $300 per day. Prior to booking, we were informed that this package would be more cost-effective than ordering à la carte. To our surprise, we discovered that à la carte options were not only more affordable but also more extensive. Each dining event we were instructed to use the limited dining menu which was surprising because i was not advised this when booking and had me feeling like a second-grade guest.

7. Dining Mishap at Pacific Restaurant:
During a visit to the Pacific Restaurant, our order was forgotten, and it took MORE THAN AN HOUR for the staff to realize their mistake and that's only when the kitchen started preparing our food. When we requested bread to temporarily satiate our hunger, we were charged $10 for 4 pieces of bread and just olive oil. Other guests were being served bread with a variety of butter and with better presentation.

8. Bland Food:
The quality of the food across all the resort's restaurants was disappointingly bland, failing to meet the expectations of a five-star resort.

9. Breakfast Delays and Confusion:
The breakfast selection was limited, and just ordering eggs took an unreasonably long time. Moreover, there were no clear instructions on how to place orders, leading to confusion among guests. I ended up assisting numerous individuals who were left clueless about how to place their orders.

10. Unfulfilled Promises at Checkout:
Prior to checkout, our personal concierge assured us that we would receive a takeaway breakfast as we were departing early at 6:30 am. However, no one seemed to have any knowledge of it and we had to wait for it to be prepared, delaying our transfer to the pier.

11. Duty Manager's Indifference:
My wife expressed our myriad concerns and complaints to the duty manager during checkout. Regrettably, he exhibited a complete lack of concern and even took the liberty to share his own grievances about other guests, which we neither solicited nor cared about. It was pure gossip from his end.

In summary, the service at the Intercontinental Hayman Resort was unequivocally horrible. The staff desperately needs more training, and this experience has left a stain on the Intercontinental brand.

We booked the Pavilion villa at a considerable cost, expecting exceptional service, but it felt more like a 3-star resort due to the poor service and unpalatable food. Notably, nobody appeared to care about our special occasion, as we were celebrating our honeymoon and babymoon. While the resort's location and physical beauty were commendable, I strongly advise against staying here given the exorbitant prices charged. There are far better options available where you can expect a higher quality of service. Unfortunately, the Intercontinental Hayman Resort failed to live up to its reputation and our expectations.

Memorable 60th birthday

Right from the start until the end, you could not fault the entire experience. Everything that was available activity wise was great. The trip to Bali Hai, the golf simulator, the rec room, the beach walks, the main pool, was magic. Plenty to do if you wanted to. Plenty not to do if you wanted to. We took the Indulgence Package which included a 3 course set menu at each restaurant - the meals were high quality and plentiful. A huge thank you for the room upgrade to a one bedroom suite. The touch pad lighting was special, as was the welcoming and birthday champagne. Well worth the experience.

Can't wait to leave

Can’t wait to leave.

My family’s stay at Intercontinental Hayman Island is nothing short of disappointing and traumatic. The ‘resort’ is a waste of a good location with poor service, inadequate staff training, amenities and dining options. Firstly, the service is extremely poor. From breakfast drinks don’t arrive on time, priority is given to the staff’s biased customers, and there’s an overall lack of training, with servers failing to deliver meals to the correct tables time and time again. Secondly, you have to make multiple calls to the concierge to get the basic procedure of your room getting cleaned. And after multiple calls, you’re left with a room which has sand strewn across the floor, hair dangling from the sink, and the sofa left untidied. The hotels version of “cleaning” is making the bed, leaving all the grime and dirt on the floor as it is for our disposal. The restaurants, labelled as “fine dining” have strangely crafted menus, calling a restaurant italian with only one pasta dish, and serving below average food for an extraordinarily overrated price. The understaffing is so terrible they shut one of the only 3 restaurants each day because of shortage of staff, and during our stay, shut one of the three restaurants (an the only heated pool) for 3 days during peak travel time for painting the walls, leaving us with two dining options who’s servers ignore us and refuse to take our orders! Overall, the hotel needs to reevaluate the quality of their service which actually is worth the price tag. The staff need to overcome their customer bias and create a system which allows guests to actually receive their meals on time and without much hastle. Not worth the effort, and definitely not the money. Will not be coming here again.
